The rooms are really really old and need to be renovated completely! Especially the bathroom which gives you that feeling that you're not clean, even after taking your shower. The breakfast is fair, but you eat in plastic plates similar to those used in hospitals. Overall I found this hotel quite expensive for the quality of the rooms and breakfast....

The decor gives away the age or at least the time of last improvements. Front of hotel outside definitely looks worn and while lobby is a step up the rooms need updating. Room was very warm and no heat control. Pillow on bed was hard as rock making for a very uncomfortable night. Breakfast buffet was just average and I...

Very bas hospitality. We arrive before 15, we say we have babies. The receptionnist answer come at 15, baby " it does not matter". The contrary of the japanese hospitality. Don 't go to this hotel. There are a lot of hotel in front.

The whole hotel is very aged. You could tell this once was glory back in 1970s or 1980s. But as for now, it's just showing it's age. There's a physical key to open the door. The room is decent sized. We got a double-bed room with a mix view of garden and parking lot. The bathroom is so tiny, with...

We spent three nights in Hakone Hotel Kowakien and it was great. This complex offers all possible services, has its own onsen which you can use for free. Breakfast was amazing, there is a good connection to both Lake Aschi, Odawara and Gora Station from where you can take a cable car up to the mountain. The staff in this...

I'll start with a positive the staff seemed friendly and we had no dramas checking in. The bus stops right out the front so getting around Hakone is easy. This is where the positives end! This hotel is no more than a 2 star. The rooms are small (normal for Japan) the walls, bed heads....... ancient bed spreads, floors and...

We stayed on the 7th floor and were not impressed with the cleanliness of our room. It looks like it had not been wiped or dusted in years. There was a build up of dust in the bathroom, dirty walls and the door frame was broken. Our tour guide for Hakone said to us that this hotel is the oldest...

This place seems aging but didn't give eerie feeling because it's quite modern. The building is very big. The main bulding has onsen inside, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to try. The right wing (if you faced the main building) The right wing seems cater a lot of meeting room. The room itself was typically Japanese size, I think,...

Stayed in a Japanese style room because there were four of us - futons were pretty thin compared to a lot that I've used. Initial impression is that they should do some basic maintenance as the worn pieces detract from the overall experience. Also, while we had booked the meal plan, we had no choice about timing and were given...

This hotel has not been renovated in way too long. I was lucky to book a room at $190 a night but most other nights were double that, totally not worth it. The location is convenient if you're going to Yunessun or Mori No Yu, but please note that you actually have to cross the street to get to them--...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Several years ago I was in Japan for 7 days. Stayed in 3 different 6 star hotels, but Hotel Kowaki-en, Hakone National Park, impressed me so much as it was simply out of this world, with incredible service, hyper-luxurious rooms with elegant bathroom. Simply so fairytale like that anyone ever stayed there will remeber it forever. It's like Paradise. Have the correct address in Denmark, where I'll arrive in 10 days. ... more   less
