I stayed at a Superior Room with Open-air Bath. The room was spacious and immaculately clean. The description said it had 2 single beds, but each bed could fit 2 and the entire room could probably easily fit 4 people. It even had a sort of living room between the bed and the balcony, where people could hang out and roll around, or use it as a space to open up all their luggage. The chairs weren't that comfortable though. The floor-to-ceiling window and the balcony view was *refreshing* to look at as you wake up in the morning or as you sit on the balcony and drink your complimentary coffee/tea. (Make sure to request a high enough room for a relaxing mountain view). The toilet and the shower were separate. The shower was the standard Japanese small size, but that really isn't an issue if you will be using the public onsen anyway. The private bathtub is nice for people who want to experience the onsen water but don't want to get naked in the public onsen. Though, when you are in the bathtub, there isn't much of a view from where you are (it's blocked by the railing), and, to be honest, it's not worth the money staying here and not going into the public onsen. It's nice though for couples who would want to dip in a bath together (could comfortably fit 2 Asian-sized couples). I would say the highlight of the place are the 2 outdoor/open-air public onsen. The 6F one has a nice infinity pool view, where you can relax and stare at the mountains in the distance (it's especially nice during the autumn season), and the 5F one offers a calming waterfall sound in the background. I recommend checking the sunrise times, then waking up early and being at the 6F onsen just in time for the sunrise (make sure it is open to your gender!). If you don't want to be naked outdoors though, both public onsen still have the regular indoor pools with windows also looking out into the trees (also, the water is hotter indoors). But I think it's wasted money if you come here and *not* experience the outdoor baths. My stay included a breakfast at the hotel's own restaurant on the 5th floor. It was the traditional Japanese breakfast (the main dish was fish and rice, and a lot of other small vegetable dishes, salad, and desserts). It was all pretty to look at and you could tell the amount of effort that went into the presentation. If you are not fond of the traditional Japanese breakfast, you might want to inquire at the hotel for other options (there were no other options for me though as it was a special package that already included the breakfast). After you had your breakfast, go to the 5th floor to have some freshly brewed coffee (from a machine) and hang out at the patio surrounding the 5F reception. The view of the trees is relaxing as you consider and plan the activities for the rest of your day. Aside from the 2 public onsen, the garden, and the bar/lounge, there's not much to do here or in the surrounding area. It is a bit far off from the rest of the places-to-see in Hakone. They do offer a free shuttle to take you to/from Gora/強羅駅, but if you are the type that likes to walk around and explore the area, then it's not as convenient. I suggest coming here and checking-in, only after already doing a long day of exploring Hakone. Rest for the night, take 2-3 baths, have a massage at the spa, have drinks in your room or at the bar, recharge, relax, then checking-out the next day to resume your adventures.

We stayed for one night for my wife's birthday, and would highly recommend. The dinner is amazing, and one of the best meals we have had in a long time. The breakfast is also superb if you like Japanese breakfasts! The service from the staff was exceptional. We had a bit of a mishap with the birthday cake I had ordered for my wife - and the issue was resolved very quickly and professionally. The level of service really was excellent. The room itself was beautiful and clean. We will definitely be staying here again for our next visit to Hakone - because of the food and the high level of service.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for only one night, but how we wished we could have stayed longer! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt completely looked after. The reception staff and concierge were very helpful, and spoke sufficient English so that everything was clear to us. The hotel is beautifully located amongst the hills, and is a very short journey to Sounzan where you can take the ropeway to Togendai Port (where you can take the pirate ship across the lake). The bathtub on the balcony is a great touch, but it is still worth visiting the Onsen, which includes a sauna and a hot outdoor infinity pool. I also loved wearing my Yukata all day (including to dinner). The staff clearly take hygiene seriously and the facilities were very clean. We opted to eat the Kaiseki multi-course dinner in the restaurant. It was a fun experience; we definitely recommend it if you haven't tried Kaiseki elsewhere. The breakfast was also (by far) the best we had in Japan.

Unfortunately it was snowing when we arrived in Hakone which destroyed our touring plans. The resort is very big and was bustling like a train station at check in. Check in experience was ok and our escort to the room was very sweet and pleasant. All the staff was very friendly and efficient. Our room overlooked the parking lot and was categorized as a Mountain View room. Perhaps if the weather was better it may have been. We moved to a garden/forest view room which was much prettier view. All the trees were covered in snow and you can hear the hot springs and waterfalls when you open the balcony door. Way better than the other room. When we went for dinner we were shown to a dark back room, rather than a table that was in the main restaurant overlooking very pretty gardens. We objected and were seated at a window table. Insist on a window or main restaurant table for your meals. Dinner was a 7 course (small servings) Japanese meal, which is not for all western tourists. Other than the Sashimi and beef dishes, the rest were tasteless! Breakfast was a western style buffet served on a tray. It was pretty good! Room is functional and comfortable with lovely Tatami mats and futon beds. Very clean and great traditional clothing to wear around the resort. Shower is like a closet and similar in size to a cruise ship shower. Hot spring bath on balcony was great and very enjoyable. Did not use the public Onsen. The hotel is VERY expensive for what you get.

- The best buffet breakfast I’ve seen in Japan. -Classic half board dinner, up to standard. - Nice Room: Clean, Nice, New, Size good, Quiet even we were toward car park. - Nice staff. - Easy parking Improvement: - The only thing I feel disappointed is the mattress. Its drop down to the middle while you try to sleep a side near the edge. You could not sleep with other, or you two would drop into the middle.
