My friend and I chose to stay here for a couple of nights, but we kept adding on more nights because we weren’t ready to leave! The two private onsens are easy to reserve and they are perfect! The property is cozy and makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. There is plenty of nature around the property and many good bars and restaurants in waking distance. The owners are super helpful and are always available for questions or to add on more nights to your stay! I hope to make it back here again one day.
My friend and I planned to stay here for two days and then rent a few other places as we made our way around Hakone. However after looking at other “Similar” rentals we quickly realized that this place is unparalleled and chose to stay here for our whole vacation. Even on the weekend when the place was more full we were always able to get into the onsen when we wanted to. The host was completely accommodating to everything we needed and the public transportation in this region is so easy to use that we didn’t need to base ourselves in other locations to visit them. Do yourself a favor and stay here.
We received a friendly welcome to this small, well-established Japanese guest house. Spotlessly clean, attentive service. The owners are very knowledgeable about the beautiful area of Hakone, where there are many activities (sportive, cultural, natural, history etc.) for all ages. Small but relaxing sulphur onsens (exterior and interior) in the hotel. If you want to learn about Japanese manners and social etiquette you will have that experience here. At some point, the guest house will need updating but it is cosy in an old-fashioned way. Wi-fi available so no worries about the internet, it's more about the atmosphere. Good ofr individuals, couples or small groups. I think there are self-catering facilities in a part of the guest house.
A small very well run authentic Japanese inn. The hosts spoke good English and went out of their to help and provide advice on restaurants, buses and sight seeing. The highlights were the private onsens with mineral springs both indoor and outdoor. Rooms basic but clean with great forest views. Fantastic location short walk to the bus stops and local restaurants. We really enjoyed the true Japanese experience and the local hospitality.
We were looking for a ryokan or minshuku experience during our 2 weeks in Japan and the Fuji-Hakone Guesthouse exceeded our expectations. Friendly and attentive staff and owners, access to two private onsen on the premises, beautiful surroundings, fantastic room and comfortable futons, beautiful yukatas. Some reviewers commented on the hostel-style of this accommodation (i.e.; communal facilities such as kitchen, dining area, shared bathrooms) but that’s common for ryokans and the norm for minshuku... and very common in many parts of the world outside of North America. We didn’t find it inconvenient, despite traveling during the New Year high season, there were no wait to access the gender separate bathroom facilities. I enjoyed drinking tea in the evening in the eating area while planning the next day and chatting with the friendly owner. We didn’t take the optional breakfast - although it looked good - because it was a western-style breakfast and with only two weeks in Japan we preferred to eat fish, rice, and onigiri for breakfast (and western-style breakfast back home). We stayed two nights but I’d go back there for a week to re-energize in this peaceful guesthouse.…
