If you want a nice, secluded getaway from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo during your trip to Japan, Hakone is just the place. And the Mikawaya Ryokan is a great place to do so (and the bus stops right in front to boot)! We...More

My husband and I visited Japan for 2 weeks and wanted to end our trip with a stay at a traditional ryokan. I spent a lot of time researching and we picked the Mikawaya Ryokan because we wanted a traditional experience, not one of the...More
We had rooms with private onsens. The water was very hot so we had to cool it before using, but then it was so refreshing.
The room was lovely. Really good food, beautifully presented. The staff were so helpful. We selected western breakfast.
Open air onsen has Hot spring water, quite hot.
There is an outside shower with regular tap water, also under open roof, but no inside shower or bath.
Actually it's really nice regardless of the weather.

dinner will probably be the trickiest as they tend to serve very traditional Japanese options, so I would recommended getting in touch with them well in advance so they can accommodate. Breakfast shouldn't be a problem at all as they have a western style option (which includes things like toast/croissants/eggs and fruit- was actually all very nice!)
