Yes it needs updating, the bedroom was basic but you could help yourself to coffee, tea, juice or water at any time. You were allowed to take food back and eat in the reception/eating area which was a great plus, other hotels don't allow this. The staff had limited English and the older ones even less but hey how many...

Limited English but manageable, helpful and tried to explain things as well as they can. The single room was compact but adequate. A bit dated but clean. Has a mattress or was it blanket heater, so had a comfy sleep. Enough amenities like soap and shampoo, toothbrush, pajamas need to be rented for ¥100. Free breakfast was simple but adequate,...

Let me start with the positives. First the place is cheap. Secondly the room for 2 adults and 2 children was relatively large. But there, unfortunately, is where the positives stop. I don't enjoy being critical about any place as usually "you get what you pay for". However and whilst forewarned by an earlier review - I just did not...

The general rule in Japan is that people is friendly and in Viva hotel we found the total exception to the rule. The room is big but terribly freezing. . Going to the toilet is a nightmare as it really cold as the windows does not close properly. Beds are comfortable but it is noisy from outside and the blinds...

The hotel was decent, the room OK, the bathroom was quite small but the bed was comfortable. We stayed 2 nights and we liked it for the people and it was also very convenient for the distance to the station. The breakfast is an experience. Two old ladies are taking care of the breakfast in a way that you feel...

This hotel is conveniently located, it is approx. 3 minute walk from Tobu Nikko railway station and bus terminal. The owners are elderly, nice and understands some English. If you stay for more than one night, you can choose not to have your room made on the following day for a small discount in room price (but they still change...

The hotel is near the station. The staff is kind. You can drink coffee and tea in dining room freely until 23:00. There is a free massage chair. There are no pajamas in the room. However, you can use it by paying 100yen. There is a curfew. You can choose the breakfast, Japanese food and Western food. You must tell...

This hotel is near the train station, far from the main touristic sites. There are two separate (horrible looking) buildings few meters away from each other: one where only single rooms are available; and a second larger one with more variety in types of rooms. The rooms are old, and looks like what could be Japanese grandma's place, with Tatami,...

A great place to base yourself in Nikko that is near to Tobu Nikko and the buses that assault Chuzenjiko! Great pricing too unless you want to go for the onsen experience (which is in my opinion, rather overpriced in Nikko). If you pay by cash, you are eligible for a discount. In addition, if you opt not to have...
