I stayed here for one night with my friend and we had a great time! The hotel was close to the station, just 5 min walk. The hotel staff were kind and helpful. Most of the other guests were groups of older people or young couples - standard fare for a hot spring hotel. We seemed to be the only foreigners at the hotel, but the guests were friendly and we had a few laughs with some of the old folks! The hotel lobby and outside areas were really nice and plush. Our room was pretty basic but it had a beautiful view over the river and it was clean apart from a few dusty corners. We had booked a room with western beds as it said that all the Japanese rooms were sold out, but it turned out our room also had a tatami area and we found some futons in a cupboard so we managed to have an authentic Japanese sleeping experience! The indoor bath was too hot to bathe in, so we just used the outdoor onsen, which was really nice, clean and relaxing. There was also an area with old fashioned arcade games, a massage area and karaoke rooms that you could book. The buffet was amazing with a huge selection of food, alcohol and desserts! The only down side was that the fish was not fresh at all (avoid the sushi!) but there were so many other nice options that it wasn't an issue for us. The hotel is a short train ride from some other nice areas - we managed to visit Ryuokyo Valley in the morning before heading to Nikko. We paid about 8000 yen each for our stay which was an absolute steal considering it included access to the hot spring and two all you can eat/drink buffets. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Interesting experience, with all the authentic robes, hot springs, traditional Japanese living area. Didn’t use it, so can’t comment. The room itself is quite decent, regular bed is soft, though it seemed a bit squeezed in. Seemed a little old & worn down. The aircon pipes prevented me from opening the windows, so couldn’t get a view. Good breakfast. No wifi

I stayed with my mother for just 2 nights in May. We were mostly interested in the Nikko area and Kinugawa is a little farther away than we first thought. However, the hotel was pretty close to the Kinugawa-onsen station, so we didn't have to spend the annoying extra taxa-fee, that you sometimes have to with Japanese ryokans, to get to and from the hotel. We were greeted by a friendly staff by arrival. At that time, there was no English speaking staff present, but the next day we were approached by a very nice English speaking clerk that wanted to help us with any questions we had. The hotel is very nice. A little bit worn perhaps, but very clean and nicely decorated. Our room was absolutely spectacular. We were worried when we heard that it was located 2 stories below street level, but the hotel is built on a cliff down to the big river which gives the rooms a great green view and a nice background river sound. We felt immediately relaxed. There were many amenities: toiletries, green tea set with local snacks, beautiful summer kimonos (yukata) and kimono jackets. The futon was soft to sleep on. However, the water in the shower was pretty cold. We didn't complain since we only stayed two nights, so I can't say for sure if it was a general problem. I can't give a review of the hot springs/onsen in the hotel since I have visible tattoos, and these are not accepted in onsens overall in Japan, with few exceptions. In this case it was specified in the hotel handbook in the room. We chose a breakfast and dinner plan to our stay and we were pleasantly surprised by the huge selection of foods. They even had sashimi, sushi, and nice cuts of high quality meats, which are usually not seen in buffet style restaurants. the quality was also pretty good. A thing that is not in the description: THIS BUFFET COMES WITH FREE ALCOHOL. There were several other activities in the hotel, like karaoke, darts and pool tables. free Wi-Fi, not in the room, but in the foyer which is spacious and has nice comfy chairs. Overall very satisfied!
