This is a classic hotel from the 1930s but has a great location near the entrance to the Nikko World Heritage Area. The set menu dinner of six courses European menu silver service is special. The food is well prepared and elegantly served. Rooms are comfortable and well heated in the autumn.

The is one of the oldest western style hotels in Japan, dating from the 1870's. Very centrally located. Our room was spacious and comfortable with excellent views of the autumn leaves, but on the third floor with no elevator. Wifi was only available in the lobby area. We thought it quite expensive for what was offered, but this possibly reflected...

This is a throwback to earlier times. The service is wonderful. The food needs an update. The restaurant menu resembles something from the 1930's with bad western dishes. The rooms are nice and spacious. The hotel is well appointed from an older time. The hotel is within walking distance of he nikko attractions.

It's an old hotel but the staff keeps it young and pleasant. Unfortunately the typhoon arrived the same time we did and we only had a day there so we didn't get to see anything beyond the street to the hotel. We had lunch, dinner and breakfast there as well. The hundred-year-old curry is really good, but there is not...

We stayed here, as a couple, for just one night on our way to Tokyo in May 2015. The staff and management at the hotel were all extremely friendly and helpful. It really made us feel welcome and honestly makes a huge difference to a typical hotel stay! If we ever return to Nikko, we would definitely stay here again....

The hotel looks great and is well preserved. The views from the rooms and the garden are splendid. It is also situated right next to the wonderful shrines and temples as well as the Shinkyo Bridge. Bus stops are also within easy distance for further explorations to the various stunning waterfalls. The food in the restaurant is also great, though...

I feel ambivalent about this hotel. It has an almost Grand Budapest Hotel-like charm, although it has never fallen on hard times, but one does feel like time has nearly passed it by. That said, amenities like the bathroom are quite up to date. The sweet man who gave us the #15 room (where supposedly Albert Einstein once stayed) was...

Kanaya sounds established Tis not easy to get that old feeling in the ole days things were rather spare If kanaya was to make it more plush it would defeat the whole purpose and the charm of it all will disappear .. the owners know what they themselves value .. This place reminded me very much my stays ... Sri...

Kanaya Hotel is traditional place. Many famous people had stayed. I felt staffs were excellent. For example before entering the hole, a young staff came to us and kindly ask me the requirement. So it took little time for checking in. In addition the garden is wonderful. Looking up and you will see mountains. Waling down and you will find...
