This is a fabulous ryokan-style hotel. The setting in the mountains is stunning, the staff are extremely attentive and the rooms are spacious. The real treat here is the fabulous onsen, which includes an outdoor onsen too. Also, the traditional Japanese meals are a very special and memorable occasion – if you have the opportunity to dine in traditional Japanese... More

We stayed there for 1 night and had very upsetting experiences. First, afterI came back from public onsen, I overheard the lady who brought dinner to our room talking "the couple I'm serving I have to wait bc the woman is not back yet" this made me feel very uncomfortable because I felt like I was talking behind my back.... Come here if you want fabulous food, a traditional Japanese experience, gracious hospitality, and an amazing Onsen bath. Don't expect Western amenities, in room Wifi, or a typical shower. I was happy to sleep on the floor and experience a traditional futon. It was much harder for my 60+ year old self (who is in shape) to manage the safe,... More

My family enjoyed this immensely, while it challenged our comfort zone in the best way. Lived in cotton kimonos, bathed in traditional hot springs, and enjoyed an 11 course Japanese style dinner. My favorite part was listening to the nearby raging river while relaxing in our room.

Full of dinner which are served by the stuff carefully. Menus will change monthly. Yuba which are made from soy beans is softer texture with tasty dashi (Japanese soup stock made from fish and kelp). You can enjoy the piano playing at the bar rounge (maybe around 20:00〜21:0) with cozy atmosphere. Guests also can request songs that you want to... More

This was the second place we stayed on our tour (Japan Enchantment with Inside Japan). This is the hotel (Ryokan) that stands out the most of all the places we stayed as being different. I would wholeheartedly recommend it. Our room was large and very Japanese minimalist in style. The floor is covered in tatami mats with very little furniture... More

This was our first stay at a Ryokan, a Japanese style inn. We thought it was gorgeous and thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here. The futons were really comfortable and so was the whole room and ensuite bathroom overall. We loved the cuisine at night and in the morning. The hot springs were well kept and the view outside over... More

Excellent hotel, we loved the traditional ryokan experience. We had breakfast & dinner included, with delicious Japanese food. The onsen is fabulous, with steaming hot indoor and outdoor pools. The location is great, only a few minutes walk to the Nikko historic temple complex. The staff and service is outstanding. Sleeping on futons on the tatami mat floor is great.

I booked the japanese room and it was a little bit crowded for my family of 5 (including my husband and 3 kids now young adults). There is heating, but no AC. You have free wifi in the hotel, 2 elevators and a women only spa next door. I highly recommend a massage and a facial if you can. We... More

Pretty basic room and dark bathroom but think that this was the ryokan style. Enjoyed the dinner in the Japanese robes but food wasn't to our taste. Good location with access to the beautiful waterfalls. Staff were very welcoming and friendly, even waved us off! Was ok for a one night stay.
