It takes about 50 minutes by free shuttle bus from Tobu Nikko Station. It is located at a place where you can see Lake Chuzenji after climbing Irohazaka. It is a traditional hotel where Emperor Showa has stayed. Therefore, the rooms are very clean and calming even in the classic style. The hot spring is a natural hot spring with a strong sulfur smell, so it takes a while for the body to cool down even in winter. Dinner is French cuisine, but everything is delicious, and breakfast is not buffet style, but is served individually. All the staff are polite and greet you, it is a very pleasant hotel that I would like to visit again.

Located on the shores of Lake Chuzenji is this lovely hotel with a rustic setting with an elaborate timber feel. We stopped here for lunch and both selected the set menu lunch special. This started with an appetiser of beautifully smoked duck, asparagus and leaves and excellent vinegarette. For mains we had the trout and the pork belly with pepper sauce coupled with excellent sides of potato, broccoli and beans. They were the perfect meal we could have ordered. We finished with a dessert plate which featured chocolate cake, strawberry sorbet and fruit. We finished off with coffee and greatly enjoyed the meal. Staff here were attentive.

This is a hotel with a calming atmosphere, and although it is a little old, it was clean and well-maintained, and we had a very comfortable stay. Even though it is a hotel, you can also enjoy the hot springs, which felt great. I was surprised to see monkeys outside the window. There is so much nature here. The food was very delicious. The waiters and waitresses were also very friendly, so we were very satisfied.

Hotel itself is very charming. The attached onsen is delightful and includes and outdoor pool. Beautiful greenery surrounds the building, and the lake is shores are a step away. I didn’t much like the restaurant but with out a car it’s really your only option. The menu was limited, no vegetarian options, and close to 100 dollars US. Overall a mixed experience

The hotel has a very beautiful location, opposite Chuzenji Lake, very large and nicely furnished rooms with a balcony with lake views and a fantastic Japanese bath with an outside pool. The problem was that without a car it was impossible to get around. The hotel is located quite a way from the main resort area "Chuzenjispa" and the only way to get there is by bus, as taxis are very few and far between, and these stopped running at about 6 p.m. There were no local restaurants open after 6 p.m. and therefore we had no choice but to eat at the hotel, either at the 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. sitting. The meal was good but we found these sittings to be too early and left us with nothing but the bath to do afterwards.
I appreciate that it could well have been an entirely different experience later in the summer (we went in May) but there was something about the place that left me feeling quite disappointed with our stay. It wasn't very cheap (about £150 per night) and I admit that I did leave feeling relaxed but if I was going again I would go for one of the lakeside hotels actually in Chuzenjispa.

This hotel is situated in a beautiful location, overlooking Lake Chuzenji in the Nikko World Heritage Site. The onsen (hot springs) were a perfect touch, with both inside and outside baths. The service was fantastic, and the food was delicious. It is an ideal spot for relaxing and getting away from the tourists. It is not for everyone, because as another reviewer noted, the town pretty much shuts down by 6pm. It was a peaceful quiet setting on a beautiful lake. It was not for night life. We knew that and appreciated the quiet without a mass of tourists everywhere. There are many options for enjoying the scenery, including boat rides on the lake, a fantastic waterfall that requires a long elevator ride to reach, and a small natural history museum. I wouldn't spend several days there, but it was a delightful overnight stay for my family. Hourly buses make it possible to see the sites easily, although you should not expect readily available transportation after 6pm. Taxis are available, but they are not easily accessible by the waterfall. Luckily, the hotel sent the shuttle for us at no charge after our dinner. We felt quite pampered. The only downside was the hotel cost, which was high even by Japanese standards. Again, this is a World Heritage site, so we expected steep hotel costs.

Love love love this hotel. Set on the secluded area of Chuzenji Lake this hotel has the friendliest staff and excellent restaurant. The staff bend over themselves to help you with anything you need and the quality of food(see pics) and service is amazing! There is a hotel shuttle bus or a local tourist bus that takes you around Nikko visiting all of the amazing sites. The hotel is like stepping back in time but is by no means tired or worn, just very unique.

Perhaps others have had more luck and stayed in a fully renovated room. Number 203 certainly is not one of them, although someone put one thin coat of paint over a moldy bathroom wall. Mold and grime, worn carpets, hair on the bathroom floor, lots of scratch marks on the walls, a cramped room with constant humming and beeping noise from several sources. We switched off all appliances but the noise from the outside stayed. This room was priced at 48,600 Yen, on special for 39,600 Yen. Dear management, for that price I expect more appealing furnishings overall. Free WiFi provided in tea room / fireplace lounge, not in our room. Free tea and coffee. Beware that the 'lake view' is obstructed by large trees in the summer. Opposite the road which runs between the lake and the hotel as an old wooden boat house, which is open during the day. There you can sit on a nice deck right on the edge of the water. There is no café; you can bring your own picnic. We observed Sika deer and a Japanese weasel right next to the hotel. The restaurant's last orders are already at 20:00, and there's no alternative restaurant in walking distance. Breakfast was quite ordinary (no real butter). Traveled by car; about 90 minutes from Numata, Gunma, and 45 minutes from Nikko.

This very traditional Hotel is located quiet however quite isolated. Meaning, you don’t have any other chance then to use the hotel restaurant for dinner. Speaking about the restaurant, the quality is very good, however on the expensive side.
When opening the window you hear the noise from the cars in the street in front of the hotel. As mentioned already in other reviews you cannot see the lake from your room. The beds didn’t convince me.
Overall this is a very traditional managed hotel. Staff is very polite and of course like everywhere in Japan their rooms are very clean.
Considering the price with over 30,000 without any food I consider this overpriced.
