Wanted a ryokan/onsen experience when visiting Nara. Admittedly it was my only ryokan/onsen experience but LOVED it. Stayed on futons and did the traditional Japanese breakfast. Not cheap, but really nice facilities and amazing service.

We did not take the meal plan when we stayed at this hotel. However, dinner is definitely served in their dining room. I do not know if some rooms also have an option for dining in the room. I would check directly with the hotel. Also, I would add that in room dining in some ryokans can be a very enjoyable experience. I don't think it is an option here.
