We stayed for one night during our trip to Nara. If you read nothing else in my review, please just BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU NAVIGATE TO THIS PLACE. There are a lot of places called "Naramachi". This one is "Guesthouse Naramachi" but there is also a "Naramachi Hostel", which is a completely different place in a different section of town....

Thank you for many comments. Guesthouse Naramachi was built 100 years ago. A famous calligrapher lived in this house. This facility is not a luxury hotel with thick walls that can isolate sounds between rooms. It is a facility where you can experience the accommodation of a Japanese old-fashioned house in a style that separates rooms with 2-3 cm thin...

Beautifully designed space, serene, comfortable, with thoughtful touches like heated blankets, this is like no other hostel you'd stay at. And on top of that, a traditional setting, absolutely delicious food, gracious hosts, friendly staff, and lovely bar make this a phenomenal combination of budget travel with amenities of a 4star hotel

We spent one night in this hostel, which is in a quiet neighbourhood a bit far from the main station. There's a secondary little station nearby, so it's possible to take a 5min train to get closer. Staff is nice and the place is clean. Beds are ok. Showers are fine.

Very beautiful old building in a wonderful street in Nara. They have dorms and private rooms in Japanese style. You can hire bikes to visit the the park and the temples. I can only recommend this place.

This wooden house has built for over 100 years! how amazing it is! and there're full of the fragrance of wood! Although the floor and the soundproof isn't perfect, it's still a wonderful stay and sleep experience. And you can rent their bike to go the spots you want in a fair price. I think i will visit there again...

Very friendly, willing hosts. It's a bit odd that the guesthouse completely shuts down between 11AM and 4PM, but you'd be out in the area of Nara anyway. Ask for the restaurants with local food in town and what to do, because they know a lot. Rooms are clean, very very clean. Same as the rest of the house which...

On the southern edge of Naramachi, but convenient for exploring all of Nara's attractions.Shunju-san and Kumiko-san couldn't have been more welcoming, and the calligraphy-themed room overlooking the garden is all you could want for a traditional guesthouse stay.

A cracking place to stay in Nara! This traditionally Japanese guesthouse, anywhere else in Japan would demand a far higher nightly fee. As it is, this guesthouse provides fantastic value for money. Located within a beautifully conserved, traditional wooden building, the guesthouse has all the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. The owners are incredibly hospitable and are only...

Location: 5min walk from JR Kiyobate station, 15-20min walk from Kintetsu Nara station. What I like is that there is a family mart and bus stop less than 1min walk north (in fact just across the street), so it is really convenient base to travel from. My parents stayed in another guesthouse 5min from JR Nara station, but I reckon...

We stayed at Naramachi Guesthouse for 3 nights during July 2014, and it was indeed a superb experience. It only took us 20 minutes by bike to the Nara Park. If you are staying at Naramachi Guesthouse, make sure to rent a bike for a day and you won't regret! It was wonderful to cycle around the neighborhood.

Thank IMJosephine
