Staying in Sakuraya was truly one of the best experiences we had in Japan. The warm welcome, the atmosphere, the beautiful details and the comfy futon beds: it was all awesome. We felt instantly at home at Sakuraya and loved our host. She apologized for the cold toilet, but that didn't bother us as the rest was simply perfect. We...

If you've gotten the idea from the other TripAdvisor reviews that Guest House Sakuraya is a gem, and that Kayoko-san is the perfect hostess, you are on the right track. There is an art to creating traditional Japanese accommodations that are welcoming and uncomplicated for Western visitors, and Sakuraya illustrates how to do this exceptionally well. I really can't think...

We stayed here for two nights in the upstairs room (there are only three rooms). Our Japanese-style room had a small private toilet and sink, which made it convenient. The other two rooms share the bath on the ground floor and all guests use the showers on the ground floor. Always clean and ready to go. The house is immaculate,...

Stayed in Sakuraya for one night after seeing all the great reviews online. It did not disappoint. This place is really beautiful, great location, and most importantly Kayoko was really friendly and very helpful. We got into a problem with one of the bike we rented at a shop and they asked for a big fine/repair fee, we couldn't communicate...

This was not only my best stay during two trips to Japan, it was my best and most memorable stay in 21 years of international travel. This, unlike so many "ryokans", is a genuine ryokan with wood walls, floors and sliding doors throughout. To say it was impeccably maintained would actually understate its condition. Everything, down to the smallest detail,...

Sakuraya is an excellent guesthouse located near the major sites of Nara but far enough away to get out of the hustle and bustle. It is located in the old historical neighborhood of Naramachi. There are many restaurants easily in walking distance. In addition to seeing the major sites, be sure to walk the neighborhood and visit the refurbished houses....

My husband and I had a lovely stay at this ryokan. Kayoko was an amazing host. The place was very clean and looked exactly like it did in the pictures. The futons were comfortable and Kayoko made a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast for us in the morning. It was wonderful being able to experience staying in a traditional Japanese house...

Best place we stayed in Japan, and the woman who owns/runs the place is the best host of any accomodation i've stayed at. We had the room on the lower level next to the garden, i'd suggest thats the pic of the rooms. The Japanese breakfast was delicious, really good salmon. She also made bacon for my wife who doesnt...

This guesthouse is reformed typical old house keeping original traditional style. That's why owner's policy is not business-like but make knowing Japanese traditional life and culture for whole world. Probably Japanese guests cannnot stay in order to this policy, but I could stay here because of booking by my foreign friend together. It was wonderful time even Japanese, so 99%...

We have been here for just one night but this time was really worth it. When we arrived we got a really warm and friendly welcome. The accomondation is perfect because it really makes you feel how the japanese culture and life is. Furthermore the location of the place was perfect and Kayoko (the owner) gave us a lot of...
