This is a small town hotel with a very nice feel. Having stayed there in the winter, when the ground was covered with 2 feet of snow, it was fantastic.

It is very near the train station. There is not much in the town, apart from a few shops, but the railway is so near that exploring other areas of the valley and surroundings is very easy. We found the samurai castle at Aizuwakamatsu really good. The railway also links to the main Shinkansen train route so is easy to get to and from at Koriyama and there are regular trains all day.

English is not spoken much, the food is real Japanese and the rooms are mostly traditional. They do have western rooms, but I would go for the traditional ones where you sleep on the floor with quilts from the cupboards. The rooms are quite large. Out kids loved the whole experience. The Onsens – (large hot baths) are also good and can be taken at any time, either in public or private.

The hotel was a bit cold in the corridors...
