Amazing, comfortable stay at The Edison. Albert and team provided us with excellent service by sharing recommendations for to-do during our stay and also thoughtfully decorated the room with lovely balloons as it was my partner's birthday too. Not forgetting the comfortable pantry, and wine o'clock after a hot day out exploring the streets! Overall will return back again. Thank you!

We spent 4 nights here and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is amazing. Albert, Guest Experience Manager is a wonderful hotelier. Everyday he gave us ideas about which hawker center or restaurant to go to, where to get the best massages, etc,.. nothing was a trouble for him, he arranged everything. Our room was large and tastefully decorated. The whole mansion is beautiful. Lounge staff is great, breakfast is delicious. Thank you Edison staff

What a lovely place. Beautifully restored, very comfortable with modern facilities. If you are looking for a grand eating experience, Penang is right outside the door, starting with the Red Garden right across the road. Refreshments are available FOC in the lounge and were most welcome, and the in-house breakfast of eggs and salad, or continental, was very good. The staff were very professional (hello Albert and David). The Red Garden can be a little noisy so if you are a light sleeper, make sure you bring earplugs (though it did not bother me).

Beautiful historic building and interior. Quite a romantic setting. Rooms large, cool, and very neat and tidy. Good Wifi. Daily free wine & cheese at 6PM in the lounge, also well stocked with free snacks and drinks for any time. Free breakfast is simple but generous and very nice (scrambled eggs, toasted breads, salad, yogurt, fruit, juices, coffees). Staff are friendly without being bothersome and are very efficient in their duties. After arriving, Albert gave us a walking tour map of old Georgetown, marking where to go, where to find the best Penang specialty foods (and the hours of the places!) -- that marked map was our guide to follow. We did not hire a car for our 3 day stay -- all is within walking distance. The beautiful peranakan Blue Mansion is just across the street, and the extraordinary Peranakan Museum (mansion) is a 25 minute walk. A terrific value all around. 100% recommended.

The Edison is in an excellent location for access to the street markets, street art and Esplanade of George Town and of course the street food! It is also close to the convenient bus transport system which was fun to take to the various attractions and parks in Penang. The hotel has a lovely historical ambience and we particularly liked the natural light well providing ventilation and a focal point. The air-conditioned rooms and lounge area provided a cooler and welcome environment. The rooms were sparsely furnished but quiet and cool and the beds were extremely comfortable. The friendly staff were brilliant at offering advice for activities, transport, shopping and food. We had a great stay.

This trip was to celebrate my birthday and the first overseas trip after COVID. Though the team has changed but we were impressed by the same, if not more, hospitality and thoughtfulness We were grateful to Phei Lee who went out of her way to assist us with the touch and go card and tips on driving in Penang. Yen Thin had her attention to details and remembered our likes and dislikes. Albert was knowledgeable with the local delicacies and shared his personal favourites. We were fortunate to meet Mr Eddy who shared his personal stories and yes, his motivation for his early morning cycling was to ‘catch the sunrise’. Thank you to the rest of the team who made our stay so memorable and special.

We stayed 3 nights at this lovely oasis in Feb 2023. Manager Albert and hotel staff (Chloe and others) made our first time in Penang so memorable and pleasant. The room is very clean, large and comfortable. 24/7 lounge with a lot of drinks and snacks is a plus. Definitely recommended!

Let me preface this review by saying that if you are after a hotel with all the mod cons this isn’t the place for you… having said that, if you are after a taste of history then read on. From the minute you walk into the early 1900 converted home it get a feeling of how grand a home it used to be. Beautiful tiles and staircases surround a cute indoor seating area open to the elements as in the traditional style of a house this age. We are met by Albert who, with his colleague, promptly checked us in and gave us a brief history lesson on the mansion while escorting us around and then to our room. He also suggested a wonderful Italian restaurant, Bottega Penang, when we asked about dining options. The room itself is was a decent size with a king bed, desk and chair and behind a thick curtain was a lovely bathroom with stand alone shower, basin and toilet (the amenities smell lovely and are available to purchase). Although there was no minibar or tea & coffee making facilities, there is a staffed lounge area available to all guests with complimentary snacks, non alcoholic drinks and tea & coffee. A small breakfast of eggs, salad & toast with spreads was also complimentary and the staff were very engaging, both David and Albert asking after our daily plans and offering suggestions. Being slightly away from the tourist areas of art and museums, the pool to the side of the mansion was a lovely way to refresh after the heat of the day as too the wine and cheese served from 6:00pm-7:00pm. On our first night we could hear what sounded like karaoke nearby and when we asked about it was informed that it was live singing from the hawker market across the street (the last in old Penang still offering this free entertainment). We were encouraged to take a look and dine there which we did… find a table then go around to the stalls or wave down a table server and the food & drink will be brought to you and you then pay. We enjoyed it so much we went twice! On our final morning the owner, Reena, passed by and had a lovely chat with us. She asked after our stay giving us further suggestions of things to do near our next accommodations closer to the piers. Albert was there again to assist us on check out and welcomed us to pop in if in the area again. Our stay at The Edison was lovely and the staff were amazing & made us feel like we were visiting with family… but in a good way!

The hotel is a little oasis of calm in the middle of the Georgetown .We had read of reviews of noise from the street food site opposite BUT we never heard a thing and we were on the ground floor. All the staff from the top down went out of there way to be helpful and to make us feel at home. Albert and David were just 2 of them I can’t recommend the hotel highly enough

Thank you for your wonderful review and choosing to stay with us during your recent visit to Penang. We are truly delighted to know that you had a lovely stay with us. As for the street food opposite us, it is one of the fast-disappearing food court where live entertainment is still available and you get to experience the ambience of a local food court. Thank you for your recommendation and we look forward to welcoming you again to your "little oasis" in George Town for more #TheEdisonExperience

Was in Penang for the week and stayed at the Edison. What an amazing experience - other members of my traveling group stayed at the E&O and another renovated villa but collectively, the group all decided the Edison was the best choice. The main reason was the extremely attentive staff - led by Albert and his team, who went out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. Clean rooms, great location, snack bar with some old classics and a decent breakfast. Only complaints was the wifi strength wasn't consistent and I got cut out sometimes. Would definitely stay again.
