This is our 2nd stay at the Hotel Penaga. As our 1st experience was great, we booked again this time around. What a disappointment, what a sad state the hotel is in... I loooooove the old Chinese style and that is why i booked again, a good price for a sweet hotel in a great location. But come on, the management of the hotel HAS TO REACT now!!! If not, not only they gonna lose their clientele, but their hotel too. Two nights stay = two flooding experiences. First bedroom was so nice, like a mini apartment. I just noticed casually that the bathroom was not really clean and the the antique pretty wooden sink was a bit spoilt all around the porcelain part (the actual sink). 2 hours later, I realized why: the right water tap was broken, leaking/spilling everywhere, literally flooding the top of the wooden sink and the floor of the bathroom... what a nightmare.... you arrive in town, you are all tired of the rosd, want to clean and shower and you have to repack and change bedroom. Luckily they gave us one nearby, much more clean by the way. So we settled for our 1st night. Second night.... rain... so... well basically it rained in the bedroom. the whole wall was leaking water. Called reception at 2am, obviously no maintenance on stand-by. No one came to see the damage... we gave up and put towels everywhere on the floor... and tried to sleep not thinking of the plok plok noise... In the morning, the water had changed location and was leaking through the fan, onto the pillows of the bed. You know what... never mind... if the reception and the management was not caring enough to bother about the water leakage in... no point reporting on this one too... So, as long as our belongings and clothes were not wet, we just didn't care anymore... and left at 12 checkout time. So, so, so sad and pathetic. To get such a beautiful place wasted. And please, if I am told to call 0 for any enquiries, make sure there is someone at the phone to receive my call on 0. Because I called 5 times when we had the 1st flooding and noone answered; i had to go down to reception in my pyjamas to find the staff happily chatting in the street and noone in reception to take any call. Pull your socks up guys. You gonna loose all your clientele.

Firstly, I booked the hotel for swimming pool. I wasn’t aware until I was all ready to swim, the hotel staff only told me that the swimming pool is under maintenance. Second, there is no free parking. We were required to wake up at 8am to pay for the street parking ticket to avoid saman. Thirdly, the jacuzzi was dirty and not maintained. When I turn on the power, many dirts came out from the hole and can’t be used. Fourthly, the hotel didn’t do the room clean up even though we did hang the paper on the room to do clean up. When we back in the evening, the room wasn’t clean. The staff did not apology but first blame us for not hang the paper and then told us that we need to inform the receptionist if needed clean up as they will overlook. Fifthly, the room cleaning have to improve as they did not help us to throw the beer cans we put on the table and clean the glasses we have used. They just leave it there. The good side was the hotel upgraded us to the bigger room when we were first being put at the last dark corner room no. 24 and we requested for room changed. The hotel location is also convenient and bed is comfortable. Room is spacious too.

We booked this hotel in 3rd July 2020 based on the good reviews, but it was closed (not operating) started from MCO (June 2020). Either parties (Agoda or hotel) not inform us in advanced until we have arrived and a security guide referred us to the Vouk Hotel on 1st Aug 2020. In addition, it was too late for us to book another hotel upon arrival at 4pm and forced to check into replaced Vouk hotel (under same management). It totaly ruined our holiday mood. In fact, advanced call can be made and let us to decide continue on the booking or not. However, the hotel is still opening for booking now (2 Aug) although it was closed for operation. Totally not acceptable for this kind of irresponsible hotel management.

I loved this hotel, the architecture of it is amazing and found it to feel very local and well run. The room was very comfortable and well and interestingly furnished. The pool area was also very nice to take a break from the hot weather! Breakfast was really nice although they seemed rushed off their feet with not that many guests, what we had was very nice but it could be a suggestion to have the breads, yoghurt and fruit out as a buffet for people to get as they wish and then the main breakfast served as it is now, might help the staff and also less food waste. I also really appreciated the statement regarding their eco measures, so good and interesting to see what has been done at the hotel. Would definitely stay here again!
