The hotel has been beautifully renovated while retaining its old charme and heritage. The room was beautiful and spacious; very comfortable for our family of 4. Great location with nice restaurants and cafes close nearby. Friendly staff.
A memorable stay at Jawi Peranakan Mansion because of the professional and helpful staff, and a comfortable room in beautiful surroundings. I’m making plans to return. The place is filled with interesting “living art”pieces and it feels like staying in a home rather than a hotel.
7 of us stayed here in august 2022 for 3 nights. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool is well maintained, just big enough for a swim. Nice outside spaces to relax and meet. The villas for 2 are easily large enough for 4 and have a cute courtyard. Hotel is beautifully restored mansion, from what I could see all rooms are individual.
It was a different experience as compared to normal hotel. The mansion definitely had some age which can be seen from the stain n colour of the mosaic in bath floor, washing basin. We took a mansion suit which comes with 2 King bed n can sleep up to 4 comfortably. The bath room comes with a bath tub too. Room was very spacious but no sound proving. We could hear the guests at the ground floor swimming pool from our room at level 1. We also find the hot water from water heater inconsistent when using the rain shower. We wish there's room slippers provided as the floor could be cold. free hot drinks were provided at their pantry over at ground level. There's also water dispenser available at pantry for guest use. Bottled water were provided in room. But we would prefer if there's kettle in room so that we do not have to get out of room if we wanted some hot drinks at night. Location is good. Within walking distance to some main attractions in Georgetown or an easy 5min grab ride. One thing to note it's nearby a mosque which have morning prayer during our stay. N they blast the praying via amplifier so technically we were woken up before 7am. That was rather unexpected. Overall an authentic peranakan experience.…
The hotel reception is excellent. The location is perfect. The room is amazing. Not a hotel for under 25 year old. The beverage bar as a self help is a great idea but needs attention. The supplies should be stored in airtight containers and the drawers in the server need to be cleaned up. Hot water could be an issue to some guests. The nearby mosque adds to the ambience. The decorating in the hotel is above expectations and provides a mystical experience. The ice lolly is a great idea after a long walk.
The Jawi Peranakan really is as beautiful as the photos. We stayed for 6 nights with 2 kids in-tow and the house and our room felt more comfortable with each passing day. Space within the Mansion room is very well planned, and we were able to set up our laptops on the two desks, store a little bit of food and drinks in the fridge, and relax together on the couch. We enjoyed exploring as much as the kids did... padding downstairs morning and night for coffee or tea. There is a beautiful little tiled lap pool, shady seats under the eaves and outdoors under a pagoda that are all very pleasant for a meal. And the staff are really the best! One of our kids needed medical v early in the stay and Reni helped us organise that and the follow-up over several days. Super calm, efficient and caring!…
This hotel is a breath of fresh air from the normal tourist-class hotels. As the name suggests it's a former Peranakan mansion which has retained all of its period charm whilst being modernised to make it luxurious and comfortable. The mansion rooms are massive with great beds, hot showers and good wifi all over. I was even upgraded to a villa which was even bigger, split over 2 levels, and had its own courtyard. The villas are along the Hutton St side, whereas the Mansion Rooms are set back slightly from the road in the main building. I didn't experience any noise from either (except from the mosque down the street at prayer time, but you'll get used to that). There are plenty of nooks with comfy chairs to sit on, and a small pool to cool off. No breakfast was offered, but that's of no consequence as there are no end of options nearby (Continental Bakery does some good pastries). The location is at the northern end of Georgetown, so Love Lane and the main restaurant/bar areas are a 10 min easy walk a way, although there are all manner of local and western eateries all around, being Penang. The Grab ride from the airport took 20 mins and cost 28MYR at night, although the ride back in peak hour (leaving the hotel at 530pm) took 1hr20min. Gurney is a 25 minute walk. If you want to go further afield there are plenty of scooter rental shops nearby - I rented one from "Stardust 1" on Chulia Street - possibly the nicest and most reputable scooter guy I've ever met - highly recommended. A truly charming and fantastic hotel with lovely staff and the perfect location for exploring Georgetown and Gurney on foot. I'll definitely be back.…
A wonderfully charming ‘Peranakan-esque’ hotel in a vibrant area of Penang. The hotel is gorgeously designed inside & out (though not completely in the Peranakan style), the location is convenient albeit on a busy road and the staff is warm & welcoming. Our stay was somewhat marred by the bathroom/shower. The shower faucet was broken and could not be fixed during our two-night stay, hence, made it so that one either took a cold or an incredibly hot shower. The drainage was blocked too which wasn’t very nice. Overall, we had a delightful stay and do hope to return….. providing the bathroom/shower is fixed!
This was our second stay at this hotel. The location is just walking distance to many food shops such as Line Clear Nasi Kandar, Hameediyah, Roti Canai Transfer Road and Nasi Padang Transfer Road. Rooms are clean and beautifully furnished. Hotel staffs are kind and helpful. Parking can be a bit tricky because cars are just parked on the streets; so always keep an eye for empty parking spaces to get a parking near the hotel. The streets are quite but safe. The place tends to be busy during the day so watch out for incoming cars when crossing the streets.
We booked the mansion at georgetown and it did not dissapoint. It very well maintained with modern amenities yet keeping the old charm alive. The staffs were very courteous and helpful. We even got upgraded to villa. Lots of places in the mansion for clicking good photos. Nearby to good eateries. Had a wonderful time.
