The Magellan Sutera Resort is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere with live music and scenic views, though some guests find the lounge areas uncomfortable. While the amenities earn applause for the beautiful pool and varied dining, the value is questioned due to unexpected charges. Room opinions are split, with commendations for the views but concerns over cleanliness. The location near the airport with waterfront views is a highlight, alongside the hotel's cleanliness and professional service, even as some guests report slow service experiences.

My wife and I, first holiday without the kids and or friends in 15 years,
The Magellan was an idyllic location, great resort, we upgraded room when we arrived just by asking at reception, 5th level with views across the yacht and boat harbour,
2 minute walk to the 50 metre Olympic size pool, swam and relaxed by every day during stay.
Smorgasbord breakfast each morning, try the hotel restaurants, amazing food and choice.
Staff friendly, service great. ( Terah mekasi )
Recommend to anyone!!!

We spent one week at the Magellan. Can't fault anything. The resort is very clean and spacious. Lovely, well kept outdoor areas. Room was spacious for the two of us and we had a nice sea view from our balcony. All meals we had there were nice. Good facilities all round and made use of the fitness centre which was well equipped. We made use of the shuttle bus into town, for a small price it was worth it and convenient. Had two very nice and relaxing spa treatments, highly recommend the Mandara Spa. Most of all, the staff were amazing. From front of staff to wait staff to the life gaurds and concierge, everyone was so friendly and helpful and really made for an enjoyable holiday.
Definitely recommend a stay at this lovely resort.

Stayed four nights due to a family emergency. We picked the resort because of the openness with plenty of fresh air as well as easy road linkages especially to the airport etc.

With Covid still rampant in Sabah, access to the resort was limited to guests, which was definitely a plus. Our room was large and more than adequate for our purposes though the property is showing it’s age.

The staff are friendly and enthusiastic even if they don’t all perform to expectations. But hopefully that will change over time as they pick up more experience.

Buffet breakfast was at the Five Sails. More than adequate. We ate a few times at Al Fresco with its fresh air and hopefully less exposure to potential Covid virus.

We also had dinners at Ferdinand’s, which we highly recommend. Chef Daniele (I hope I got his name right) delighted us both nights. The tomahawk is highly recommended if your party is large enough. Noorin will take excellent care of you as she did with us. We cannot compliment her enough. Truly an asset for the resort. Did we say there’s also a trio that provided live music! For us, an oddity during the pandemic.

Also an excellent resort to catch the famous KK sunsets. Will we return to stay again? You bet.

Dear C_James06, Thank you for posting a 5-star review on our TripAdvisor page. We are happy that you enjoyed our spacious and comfortable rooms along with the beautiful views of mother-nature that comes with it. Glad you enjoyed our breakfast, lunch and dinner at out restaurants. Our culinary team works hard to prepare an array of freshly prepared dishes that cater to both Western and Asian palates. Chef Daniel and Ms Norin as well as all our staff and the hospitality they have extended and provided have always been our pride .Nothing puts a smile more on all our faces than knowing that all our warm and friendly employees have accommodated you well. Your compliments are a great encouragement to our team and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Best regards, General Manager The Magellan Sutera Resort

Stayed Club Seaview room for 2 nights and quite disappointed. Room well maintained although can see the ageing. Club sea view room do not have balcony where run of the house room all comes with balcony.
Most disappointing thing here was Magellan club. They serve coffee/tea all day long and light refreshment in the evening, but no Alcoholic drink during the evening. Just coffee/tea and soft drinks. I never come across with Club lounge not serving alcoholic drinks during evening. One of highlight for Me to stay at the club room always has been pre-dinner drunks at the club lounge, and I was utterly disappointed. I complained to staff and apparantly they stop serving alcoholic drinks after COVID to offer cheaper price. I paid A$ 343 (RM1,061) which wasn't cheap, if I've known the fact I wouldn't book club room.
Anyway I ordered bottle of wine at the Club lounge for A$40 (RM 120) and found out it's A$4.99 back home in Australia.
Another issue I had, I signed the bill to charge to my room, they wouldn't allow it apparantly I didn't leave any deposit. I was never asked for deposit or credit card during the check in. This was very inconvenient as I had to walk all the way back/forth from their main restaurant to room to grab my purse to pay.
Overall very disappointing stay and I would not recommend at the Club access room. Just go for the cheapest room and enjoy the hotel facilities

This resort is absolutely beautiful.
Massive resort, big pools, great restaurants, friendly staff and lovely comfy rooms.
The breakfast is mind blowing with a big variety to explore and experience and very fresh. Staff are amazing and very helpful even though breakfast time is the busiest but staff are so experienced and attentive to there guests.
My only thing I can recommend to hotel managers is that rooms that are booked for 3 adults in one room are extremely small honestly no room to walk or move shouldn’t be excepted unless you can offer bigger rooms to accommodate for families.
Plus should have more restaurants opened we were restricted to that also.
We were a family group of 9 all adults highly recommended this amazing hotel as I always love coming back as there’s something for the whole family.
So a big thank you to management and staff for a pleasant overall stay.

I spent 5 days at this resort, apparently I was informed that they had 5 promotions during my stay. It was a very frustrating stay as none of the staff was able to assist me with the entitlement i had for my promotions. They were not able to confirm if I had discounts on my food and alcohol beverages at their restaurants. I was informed that i had discounts when i checked in but only come to find out that i was not entitled when paying the bills. The staffs were not properly informed on the promotions as I've checked with them before ordering and they said I was entitled for the discount. This confusion carried on 3 days into my stay and on the 3rd day of my stay, they said that I was not entitled for any discount for my alcohol beverages. Another thing which ruined our holidays is that the feeling of staff talking behind our backs and made us feel like we were just coming there for free drinks and food. I'm a guest at your place and this was so unprofessional. Also, the management is to be blamed as none of your team captains, assistant managers and managers knew how to provide a good customer service. They just kept passing my concerns round and round. There was no conclusion of my concern raised. I was very upset with this as it was my first holiday after being locked down during the MCO. The treatment I received was not of a 5 star and more like a boutique resort. Hi, Adrian the GM of the resort, hope you read this. I have tried seeking for your contact details but unable to obtain it. I hope you can revert back to me at paulmichael70@hotmail.com

We stayed overnight before departing to Mantanani the next day and we are quite contented with the room conditions as well as the breakfast spread. Not to mention, the facilities are quite complete and great for families of all ages. However, we do think the services rendered can be improved further. We noticed the floor trap in the disabled toilet next to the restaurant is blocked with water started overflowing to the corridor and try to highlight it to the front desk at the restaurant. Unfortunately, she just look and ignored us without any response.

Nice dinner with my favourite whisky in clubroom, we could see the sunset freely and took lots of beautiful photo then share to others. The clubroom is best I‘ve’ ever seen. Thanks for the service!! My parents and little daughter enjoyed the swimming pool with sea view very much.
It would be perfect if TVB channel is available.

This enormous resort has everything a family would need..its location is ideal..it is just 10 mins from the airport and very close to the town centre. The resort has 3 main restaurants..5 Sails where one gets to take ones buffet breakfast, 2 choices for lunch and dinner namely Ferdinand’s and Al Fresco. Ferdinand’s is an Italian restaurant and food is excellent as its chef is from Italy itself. Al Fresco has fusion Western and Asian food. Additionally, the room that we stayed in entitled us to access the Magellan Club where tea and coffee are provided free flow and refreshments are given in the evening. The sea view from our room is spectacular as one can also see the sunset. If one want to dip in the sea this is not quite the place as the beach is pretty small. The resort is waterfront but its shoreline being laced with big rocks. Nevertheless the shoreline still looks nice. I would certainly come here again if I were to visit Kota Kinabalu.

Spent 1 night here on the way from Sutera Mantanani and its a far more enjoyable "Sutera" experience. Our room on the 3rd floor of Harbour Tower has some seaview among the coconut tree. Dated furniture but well maintained spacious room with a sea facing balcony , the bathroom comes with a bathtub.
A resort style accommodation within KK city, the resort area are sea facing, making it perfect walk in the evening to enjoy the sunset view. Plenty of facilities that will keep you here without wondering out. A perfect place for you to unwind and relax.
