first time stay here in masada and supposed to stay in a dorm with others female backpackers but since the all lower bed is full-fortunately hunter the owner is around there is kind to give me a lower bed in a whole new dorm alone :). the next day i rushed to the airport and i accidentally left my another phone on my bed where i slept. called the hostel crew regarding my phone and they were so kind enough to help me to send the phone via grab to airport! just in time before my departure! the best crew and service ever! thank you masada!
The staff here were so friendly. The breakfast was typical for a hostel - toast, jam, one kind of fruit, one kind cereal, coffee and tea. Our room was fine but the walls were very thin. The shared bathrooms were pretty clean. The common area was okay but there was no window so it wasn't a place I wanted to hang out. The area around the hostel wasn't very nice but it was close to the market.
I stayed at Masada at the start of my trip through Sabah and at the end. Relaxed place to meet people. Breakfast included was nice with very good coffee. Central location. Easy to get to downtown, shops, attractions etc. They have a variety of trips organized which I took advantage of. Rooms were clean and quiet. Whenever I asked for information or advice the staff were very helpful. I had a tricky schedule, with some travel off the beaten track so this was particularly valuable for me. Peter and all his staff went out of their way to make my stays enjoyable and it was a great base from which to explore Sabah.
The place has all the basic facilities you would expect, hot shower, air conditioning, small locker, wifi etc. The location is great as you're pretty much in the city centre. It's also great if you're diving as Jesselton point is only 15min away by walking. One thing to note is that lockers are fairly small, so you can only keep a limited number of valuables. Also, you can't lock your room. Overall great stay for budget travelling.
Just the type of hostel accommodation I appreciate. Had all the basics and clean dorms, with cold air conditioning and towels. They had a free washing machine service and sufficient places to hang clothes. The provided breakfasts were simple but very adequate for me, with toast, jam and cereal (and tea and coffee too). It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the Gaya Street area, and aside from that I'm not too certain on whether there is anything of interest near Masada. The crew were affable enough and managed to suggest some places we could visit. One thing to note: the doors aren't meant to be locked (like in some hostels) so your valuables can only be kept in small lockers.
We loved Masada Backpacker. The owners greeted us and graciously spent time giving us information about the area. The facility is comfortable, clean and quiet and includes all of the amenities one might need. Our room was cozy with plenty of room to hang clothes and store items. After two months in Borneo, we appreciated the use of the washer. Masada is close to the airport bus stop at Merdeka (5 RM per person each way) which is a bargain. The facility is also close to ATMs, restaurants and shopping. Great stay!
This hostel left us uninspired. We received an unenthusiastic welcome without any tips about the area. Our private room had no windows and far too much unnecessary furniture. The breakfast consisted of toast, tea, coffee, cereal and some watermelon. An egg or something would have been a nice touch. Just before we left we did ask for dinner recommendations and got the most amazing dinner in Sri Latha curry house which we were very grateful for. I wouldn't stay here again I'm afraid.
The hostel is in a place that is very loud at night. It doesn’t help if your room isn’t facing the street (mine wasn’t) the walls are very thin giving no sound isolation. Also the furniture is quite random making it a bit uncomfortable, for example my room had a little desk but no place to unpack my backpack so I had to keep everything on the floor or put back inside.
A really homely hostel, run by friendly and helpful staff. Good wifi. Breakfast included toast with jam and butter, fruit and coffee - Adequate and tasty. Clean and comfortable rooms. We stayed in a private double room. Free washing facilities, just a small charge for washing powder. Free towel hire. KK is a small place so easy to get around from here. The hostel arranged our taxi to the airport which was a reasonable price (can't remember how much but less than 50 RM.)
Stayed here for 1 night, when we arrived in KK. Arrived around 11am and couldn't check in until 1pm which was fine as we just chilled and had a shower and by 12 they let us check in. There are no mixed dorms so ne and my friend was in separate dorms. I had a dorm upstairs where it was extremely hot but the room was nice and cool with the air con! The showers were fine, had hot shower and shower gel/shampoo. The highlight of the stay was having 2 pillows! It was pure luxury! The rooms were clean and the showers/toilet were kept clean too. Breakfast was simple- cereal, toast, bananas and sometimes watermelon. Tea and fresh coffee. The good thing was that it was served until 12pm! But the breakfast was nothing special. We stayed here again for 2 more nights after we went to the national park and the jungle trek. …
