Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
This is a delightful, friendly, modern hotel which we used both as a base and as transit for a total of 4 nights. Staff are alert and engaging, and it was nice to hear the "welcome back" even within the same day as well as after a few days away.
The buffet breakfasts have a wide choice and dinner prices and service quite acceptable. It is also close to local cuisine outlets as well.
The Imago shopping center is just a short walk away.

Stayed at The Luma hotel in their Palm Marvelous room in March 2022 during a recent business trip.
Location wise it's just across the street from Imago shopping mall so it's convenient if you needed to get anything quickly.
It's probably one of the most instagrammable hotel in KK. You'll find very nook and corner great for photo taking, but the place is not just designed for good photos, the furniture is actually comfortable to sit on.
It's a hotel I'd like to come back to for R&R after a long business meeting and I wouldn't want to go out because both the cafes and the restaurant offer great food and drinks too.
In terms of the room, it's designed for guests' comfort. There was a diffuser in the room with pre-filled water & essential oils so you could come back to a relaxing room after a long day.
Amenities such as an espresso machine, high-quality bathrobe, towels, and essential oils infused shampoo and conditioner are great for travelers looking for a comfortable stay away from home.
Verdict: I'd come back to The Luma again the next time I visit KK.

This hotel is beautiful and thevlobby reception is beautiful. The room is very comfort, a mini fridge, coffee tea making facilities and even a coffee maker provided with two coffee capsules.Though the breakfast is not buffet, you have a choice from the 4 menus besides fresh fruits, bread, crossiants, coffee. The breakfast is good. The not so good point is if you drive you have to pay 30.00 parking fee to the hotel for parking in front of hotel and is 30 for a night but for parking at hotel base is 15.00 but they limit to 10 cars only

Dear JUDYLEE2003, Warmest Greetings from The LUMA Hotel! Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us through this review. We are thrilled to receive your kind compliments regarding the hotel's design, room amenities and breakfast. We deeply regret that we were unable to meet your expectations regarding the provision of a free car park. As our hotel's car park is managed by third-party service, which means that guests are required to pay for parking. However, our in-house guest can take advantage of a special discounted parking rate. Thank you for choosing The LUMA Hotel, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.

I stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel reminded me of hotels in some European countries with small elevators. The hotel seems new & the furnishings are quite new too. I liked the bathroom especially the shower. The hotel provides a mini (?) coffee machine. I thought that’s very nice though I didn’t get to try. However, there is no wardrobe & the luggage stool. I’m so accustomed to put my luggage on the luggage stool and put most of my ironed clothings in the wardrobe. Can hear the next door guest flushing the toilet or taking shower. Having said so it provides a good security as to access to the rooms, need the keycard of the designated level to open the door

We stayed one night at The Luma Hotel in Kota Kinabalu
What about, it is a very nice hotel from the hotel lobby to the room and the restaurant
We still expected to stay at a great hotel and did not disappoint our expectations
The rooms are very large compared to the others found in Malaysia and very accurate in every detail especially in the truly scenic bathroom
We also enjoyed breakfast, offers a varied sweet and savory choice and was all great and especially in a beautiful location.
Finally it was a pity to have to spend only one night there!

The only hotel in DesignHotelsTM group in Borneo island!
The lobby and room design, coffee, cocktail and food quality is probably the best you'll find in Sabah and its at par with Singapore standards.
The hotel doesn't just give you the environment of a design hotel, great coffee, bespoke cocktails, delicious food but it also offers true Sabahian hospitality that you will not experience anywhere else.
As soon as I arrived, one of the hotel owners personally came and greeted me and spend his time to give me a tour and explain the concept of the hotel and its design.
The design of the hotel is influenced by different Sabahian landscapes and local craftsmanship depicted through contemporary means. Materials and craft is all sourced locally.
I had the chance to meet both the owners and their hospitality was unprecedented. They took their time to get to know me and introduce Sabah and its culture. Something that you will not experience at big chain hotels.
The LUMA is a brand new hotel group. There will always be room for improvement in their services. The willingness to improve is there and they listen if you have any complaints or needs.

We stayed four nights spread in three different room types during our trip. I cannot recommend the cheapest rooms we had so much traffic noise coming through window. The other two rooms were great. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. There is a not so cheap but quite good coffee shop in the lobby. I can’t recommend the Italian upstairs.
Nice security guards who were very helpful and friendly. Would be quite happy to stay here again if coming through Kota Kinabalu.

Loved staying at Luma Hotel for a week. The artistic, striking and at the same time classy deco, the consistency of excellence seen across all details from service to a toothbrush, not to mention the cheesecake and coffee, all add to a true feeling of restorative leisure and pleasure. Home away from home experience. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and you may even bump into the inspirational and creative owner and designer behind the Luma hotel in the lobby, it is truly a place with personal touch, one I will be always recommending to all visiting KK.

Located just outside of the city center, 8 mins walking distance from the imago mall, this beautiful hotel is hidden in a commercial complex. This hotel is the best 4 star hotel I have ever stay in. Its compact but well equipped, clean and elegant. Beating 80% of the 5 stars hotels out there. I will be back !

Room was lovely, reminded me of Ruma Hotel in KL, but smaller version. Water pressure is very good, bed is very comfortable, love the stand alone bath tub. My room does not have any windows which I am aware of. But then we’re almost out all day. Tips - request for higher floors. Ours is 2nd flr so can hear a bit of noise and on top is d gym, always midnite i can hear stuff moving round, not sure if its d gym or restaurant being cleaned. But only for a short time. Staff is friendly & helpful. Fast on accomodating request. Wish d junior suite only have 1 big bed, instead of 2 and have the stand alone bath tub instead. Ours is the deluxe double room - only this room has the stand alone bath tub.
