As a frequent guest here, this hotel is a great pearl for Sabah, one of the best resort hotels in Sabah. To my surprise, the security of this hotel is not up to standard, outsiders are free to enter/exit without any question. People are free to enter/exit bringing outside food to enjoy the sunset without paying anything and using the pool, stealing guest towels. As a guest, I feel offended by this situation, I pay to enjoy the hotel facilities, while other people who don't pay can use the same facilities as me. Hotel security far exceeds its name. Security during covid is the best I have seen while staying at this hotel. Hopefully, the management of the hotel will do something to prevent unnecessary problems in the future. During weekends, non-registered guests/members are free to use the parking which is not fair for paying guests/members of this hotel. In my opinion, the hotel can put security at the gate to control the public entering/out of the hotel and charge a minimal fee to enjoy the sunset just like other hotels in the world/Malaysia.

This is the second time we have stayed here, it really is a great location. The hotel is very friendly and big. The hotel grounds are very well kept and clean. The beach is pretty small here and most sit around the pool. We wanted to go to the islands on our visit but we were told the tides weren’t very good for snorkelling and the water wasn’t very clear. The main breakfast is manic here and would be worth upgrading to the horizon, as you get a few extras with that. I would definitely come back. You also get the most amazing sunsets from the beach next doot.

This was my second time staying here. We had a Mountain View. The hotel was as good second time as it was first. Lovely spacious rooms with a balcony. The rooms are very well organised with plenty of storage. We had a bath and a shower. It would be worth paying to do the horizon breakfast as the main breakfast downstairs in the hotel is a bit manic. We went off peak which was manic enough but high season must be absolutely crazy. The sunsets from the bar or the beach next to the hotel are absolutely amazing. We used grab to get into town which apart from the weekend when’s traffic is crazy to get into Kota Kinabalu was usually between 8-10 Rm. On a weekend it’s about 18rm. In the week it’s a 10 minute journey and return on a weekend. When we went in on a Saturday it took 45 minutes. Would definitely stay here again.

It is our last 4 days stay in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah for our family holiday. So we thought we will stays in a 5 stars hotel to enjoy our last few days. We were very disappointed as it's Christmas season we check in on Dec 23, took us a long time to wait in a queue for Front desk staffs to check us in. After our check in as our rooms in the Kinabalu Wing Seaview rooms are not ready. We are sent downstairs to a waiting air-con lounge to wait for our rooms - no coffee or tea or even welcome drinks like some hotel were offers ! The rooms are old & tired the only plus were a plate of Welcome fruits ! The housekeeping lady on our 4th floor are very friendly, kind & very considered as we don't have a good sleep due to kids running around as early as 5 & 6 am outside our rooms she left us alone & always asked if she could tidy our rooms or just left us alone. The staffs at the restaurant where the buffet breakfast were serve are all fabulous -they try they best to put everyone to a table as they were really really lots of hotel guest. Overall our stay at the hotel did not give us a pleasant experience & one thing we learn from the trip were not to travel in December if you can help it !

Great family holidays is this middle sized resort, with all kind of facilities. Although 40 years old, the resort is well maintained as you would expect from Shangri-La. We booked a package to have access to the Horizon Lounge, where we can avoid crowd for breakfast (peak season) and chill with food and drinks almost all day long. Special mention to the customer attention given by Christina Ting from the Lounge who took care of us from first morning until we checked out. Make sure you book room in the quieter Tanjung wing, facing the West to enjoy magnificient sunset. Only one issue: bills of our expenses when we checked out was not clear as we prepaid dining credit which were not reflected. We spend one hour reconciling… lucky we were not in a rush to get to airport. Even staff admitted there is system issue.

The pillows were about the most comfortable set of pillows I have ever lied on during my stay at a hotel. The service was exceptional as well, they explained everything during the check-in process and had one of the best lounge I ever went to. The breakfast buffet could use more variety but besides that, it was great to have someone serve us the breakfast rather than the typical style.

sunset bar, service courteous and attentive. Cocktails could be better but nonetheless a good experience. Got out of taxi with massive backpack, no offer from doormen to help. Very poor for a shangri la hotel. Same with leaving the hotel, 0 effort. Could I suggest all clients are treated with equal amounts of respect and service from your door staff.

As a Diamond member for Shangri La, I’ve come to appreciate a certain level of service from Shang. Prior to my arrival after my booking, the hotel was diligent on following up with me. However, after my arrival I think the services were ok (not extraordinary), the buffet was mediocre, the Horizon Lounge was sparse (for Diamond members and guests who stay in suites). One rule that irked me was when I went to breakfast with my 7 year old kids in the morning, they didn’t allow them in because they were in swim wear. They were wearing a long sleeve top with shorts and were not wet but the attendant said the policy is no swimwear. I would understand if there is this policy for adults (in case someone comes in a skimpy bikini or too revealing swim wear), I would understand if they said you can’t come on if you are wet, I can understand if they said you cannot come in without a top and only swimming trunks. But to turn away kids who are fully clothed in the morning for breakfast is a ridiculous policy. This is a beach resort! Why pretend to be more upscale/pretentious than you are? Secondly, the wifi internet does not work very well. This seems like a small thing but it is indicative of how much the owner/management pays attention to the infrastructure of the hotel. Thirdly, the hotel is very dated and in need of some upgrading. However, with all this being said, I would say this is a good hotel for family/kids as they have a large swimming pool area. The service attendants were friendly enough. It is fairly close to the airport so easy to get in and out of KK. At a reasonable room rate, I would stay here again. Just manage your expectations.
