Set against a picturesque beachfront, The Residence Mauritius garners consistent praise for its stunning location and tranquility. Its cleanliness is a point of pride, with spotless rooms and well-kept grounds. Spacious and comfortable rooms delight guests, though some note inconsistencies in decor. While the hotel's colonial elegance is noted, the evening atmosphere and pricey extras, including water, sometimes detract from its value. Despite this, the dedicated service from the staff stands out, ensuring memorable experiences for many travelers.

The is a superb hotel. We were meet by friendly staff and a lovely welcome drink (after a 12 hour flight was appreciated). The colleague explained to us our package and then showed us to our room, were within a couple of minutes our Butler Roshan arrived to show us how everything worked and offered to unpack out cases for us.

It happened to be my mother's birthday whilst we were out their (not that we had told them). On the day, we came back from our excursion to find a lovely towel decoration in the shape of a birthday cake decorated with flowers from their garden. There was also a vase on the table with flowers from their garden. To top it all, in the evening at dinner, they had laid a special table with flowers (again from their garden) and present my mother with a lovely chocolate cake with a plaque wishing her "Happy Birthday" and had pearls/small sea shells. To our astonishment the plaque was edible.

We used the Spa twice. Divya and Naomi are excellent. The Manager of the area (I didn't get her name) really looked after my mother when she went to use the Sauna/Steam Room. It is a very calming area to visit.

All the hotel staff were welcoming, friendly and couldn't do enough for you to make your stay an enjoyable one. Here are just some of the staff we dealt with:-

Joselyne (Butler)
Ansuya (Chambermaid)
Han (Concierge)
Ricardo and Captain Mike (Yacht Club)
Trisha (Chef on Breakfast)
Shirley, Julie, Yashika, Janit, Ruben (The Dining Room)
Kalash, Yakish (Bar staff)
Stefan, Kooshal, Sarian (The Planation Restaurant)
Sam (Pool Area)

I do apologies if I misspelt any of the names and I know I have missed off others but just want to say a heartfelt thank you to you all for making our holiday so memorable.

Our stay at The Residence was the highlight of our time in Mauritius purely because we felt so at home in paradise.

The relaxing atmosphere engulfs you as soon as you step into the breathtaking foyer. With views out onto the sparking Indian Ocean you won't want to leave!

The staff are incredibly attentive and looked after my family which included a 4 month old baby (very popular with Sabrina). Check-in was seamless, we didn't lift a finger as it was all done for us whilst we sipped on freshly made iced tea. Our bags were unloaded and delivered to our rooms and our car was parked for us. Our butlers Kev & Abhi even offered to unpack our bags for us!

The spa is well equipped with an extremely relaxing atmosphere and lounging area. The gym isn't the largest but it has everything you need for a decent workout.

We stayed in Colonial garden view rooms (we could see the sea at an angle from our balconies) which were extremely spacious. The bed was comfortable and we had robes and slippers provided for us. The bathroom was huge with a walk in wardrobe and a separate shower. The travel cot for the baby was a full sized one and looked brand new with clean and soft bedding provided.

We stayed half board but felt full all the time as the buffet breakfast and dinners were so filling. During our 7 night stay we had so much variety and different freshly cooked foods from various cultures - we especially loved the sea food.

My daughter and her husband went paragliding a the resort and had rave reviews, We also went on a complimentary glass bottom boat ride but we didn't have time try out all of the other activities.

The hotel is sited right on the beach so there is a section reserved for the guests. It is clean and well looked after and the sun loungers by the pool cannot be reserved so every one gets a fair chance at getting one throughout the day.

We recommend hiring a car if you can as the area is quiet and not walkable. You'd need to drive to the next town (Trou d'eau Deuce) to find a convenience or souvenir store.

We stayed in February but the weather was warm and breezy and the sunsets were beautiful. Throughout our stay the staff couldn't do enough for us and Selvi looked after all our requests whilst we were there. We won't hesitate to stay at the Residence again and we are so grateful we got to experience it in 2020.

This is a large busy hotel on a very nice beach with good amenities and food. There is a big open restaurant used for breakfast and for buffet for evening meals. There is a smaller a la carte restaurant for special occasions. Generally we thought the food was of a high standard but drinks are expensive (compared to offsite). They have very attentive, friendly staff and enjoy a good location near to the small town of Belle Mare (has a number of tourist souvenir shops, restaurants etc).
We had some issues with faulty air conditioning, which eventually resulted in being upgraded to a better room.
We did some of the free snorkel and glass bottom boat trips, but avoided the more adventurous water sports (sadly too old!).
Ideal for family holidays, they have a kids club and we saw small tots being supervised in the pool. We were outside the school holidays so I imagine it could get very noisy in peak periods; that said we had a very nice stay.

I am a regular and frequent visitor to Mauritius which I now consider to be my second home. After having stayed in many beautiful hotels on this paradise island I can confidently say that The Residence is the best and a clear favourite of mine.

The location on the east cost is perfect along a beautiful white sandy beach facing the clear blue waters of the Indian Ocean. The hotel itself has stunning architectural design and is elegantly furnished throughout. However the reason that makes this hotel so perfect is it’s staff. From the reception and concierge to the bars and the restaurant all the staff are so welcoming and professional. I specially like it’s unique Butler service. There is always someone at hand to assist with packing or unpacking, arranging laundry or dealing with any special requests. You are always greeted with a smile and nothing is too much trouble.

The main restaurant is called The Dining Room which is beautiful and has large floor to ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the ocean. My favourite time of the day is breakfast in The Dining Room on a sunny morning seating by the window. The buffet breakfast always has an amazing array of fresh tropical fruit, freshly made smoothies to your liking and of course a cooked breakfast of your choice.

The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished with all the amenities you would expect from a 5 Star hotel. I stayed in ocean front room with large windows and a balcony. The views of the beautiful beach and the ocean beyond are absolutely stunning.

In the evening you are expected to dress smart for dinner. There is always live music in the elegantly furnished bar and often a dance show . In The Dining Room there is a themed buffet dinner each evening with plenty of choice including vegan and vegetarian dishes on offer. Further more the chef is always around if you have any special dietary requirements.
In addition there is an a la carte restauant called The Plantation which serves Michelin quality dishes in elegant surroundings overlooking the beach.

I am already looking forward to my next stay at this gem of a hotel.

This hotel looks like an adult hotel in its glamorous colonial styling, however, it is excellent for children of all ages. The babysitting service is reasonable in price and flexible and the Restaurants have plenty of high chairs (although the kids club only caters for 3yo +). The pools offer different temperatures to suit children of all ages and the Plantation restaurant provides delicious pasta meals and fish / chicken for the younger palate.

For the adults, there is simply the enjoyment of being in such a wonderful location whilst amidst pure luxury. The staff can not do more for you and the bar offers an excellent selection of drinks familiar to the western traveller. The plantation restaurant is really delicious and Sabina amongst others made our meals there that extra bit enjoyable (the lobster night was delicious!) The sun beds are excellent and comfortable and plenty of water is provided free of charge to help keep you hydrated in what is the strongest heat I have ever encountered. The beach is beautiful with palm trees, white sands and a cooling breeze.

During January there is the occasional heavy downpour. The hotel Spa facility is super and Madhvi provided one of the best reflexology treatments I have every had.

I throughly recommend those hotel for couples and families with young children. It’s literally paradise!

We stayed at the Resdence for our 25th anniversary, and what a memorable stay it was! The hotel is really charming, rooms spacious and comfortable. The food is very good and the buffet restaurant and a different theme and menu everyday. What we liked was the special touches on a daily basis, in line with the food theme. A little gift would be placed in very room. The staff are the friendliest and most helpful, always around when you needed them, yet not intrusive. Mauritius was hit by a cyclone during our stay there, and due to the cancellation of all flights, we had to stay on much loner than expected. The staff couldn't have been more understanding and cooperative throughout this period of uncertainity. They offered stay for the extra day at a very special price which was really appreciated and late check out at no extra cost. All this on their own initiative, without us having to ask too. Our special thanks to Bhavna and Vanisha at the front office for all their help. The Residence is the place to stay, when in Mauritius. I highly recommend it and would stay there again whenever we visit again.

We had a pleasure to stay in this stunning hotel last May. Almost everything, from beginning to the end, had exceeded our expectations.

Above all, I must say that the staff is brilliant and they really do their best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. All of them, from receptionists, waiters, chefs, our butler, Boat House boys, cleaning ladies, ladies in little hotel shop, security staff, management … are very kind, professional, courteous and provide the highest, exquisite level of service. We had nice chats with great and very friendly waitress in main restaurant, Mrs. Shista Ramkhalawon Teemul. Also, I must mention Nitash and Ally from main restaurants (I apologize, but I forgot their last names).

The hotel itself is very elegant, classy and peaceful. There is a bit of an ‘old times’ feeling, which itself is certainly memorable. It is in beautiful setting, along the stunning, picturesque beach, with many lovely birds, which sing all day long, a real tropical dream. We chose The Residence because of its amazing, long, white-sanded beach, with plenty of space for swimming. Actually, there are three parts of the beach, and every part itself is equally impressive. WiFi did not work properly in our favorite, middle part of the beach, among palm trees, so this should be improved. Middle May weather was great and sunny and the sea was hot and pleasant. We had only one windy day with few drops of rain, so I think that beginning/middle May is good solution for this part of Eastern coast. Belle Mare beach is beautiful, certainly one of the best beaches we saw in Mauritius. It is good for long walks and there are several hotels along it, we also liked neighbouring Luxe hotel. Belle Mare village is not far from hotel, you can easily walk there to buy some little things or souvenirs. Also, I recommend you to visit Flacq, the city which is not too far away and there is a big, colorful market two days a week. For us, The Residence was a good base for exploring this amazing island.

Our room was excellent, classic-colonial style, calm colors, cozy, spacious, immaculately clean, with a most beautiful hotel bathroom we had had recently. Big terrace with a table, ideal for a glass of vine before dinner or for a morning joy with lovely singing birds around. The lady who maintained our room was very courteous and made sure we have enough shower gels, shampoos, conditioners…

Food was delicious. Main restaurant had great variety of dishes and everything was very tasteful. There was a different theme each evening. Also, the nearby bar offered evening entertainment with live music (above all, an excellent piano player) and dancing.

This was a perfect stay in a top notch hotel. We would like to thank all the great people who work here for keeping up standards and providing us such a joyful time. We would gladly stay in this hotel again and recommend it to everyone.

An elegant resort right on the beach lagoon. It is designed to look like a Plantation property with the main service area in the centre. This includes the main dining room, swimming pools and reception. The rooms are in several blocks to each side of the centre. It is low rise to a maximum of three levels. The rooms are large, bright and modern, presented very nicely with a large bathroom that includes a separate bath and shower.
There are numerous places to relax, three distinct areas of beach, each with a member of staff to sort out your sun-bed and provide water and other sustenance. There is plenty of room for everyone, beds on the beach, at the pool or in the palm trees.
This was all great but the icing on the cake was the food. We were half board, which I would suggest is the way forward. Rooben and his team in the main dining room presented a la carte offerings each evening. There is a sense of belonging when you are greeted by name.
At the other end of the resort and on the beach is the Plantation restaurant. Radhoa and his team allowed us to sit on the veranda watching the world go by. There is an additional charge to eat here but well worth it.
We had two dinners and two lunches, all great but the standout was the lobster night on the Sunday evening.
It isn’t by accident that both restaurants are superb, both managers are hands on and always there.
Shout out to Sabrina and Sailen who looked out for us.
Well done.

Superb service in relaxing, colonial style surroundings. The north east location is beautiful and unspoiled with superb, white sand beaches.

Our ocean view room was lovely.

The food in the buffet restaurant was excellent, sometimes offering too tempting choices, so we often chose the Plantation restaurant with waiter, a la carte service, also superb food, but stopped us going for 2nd helpings to keep the calorie intake down!

Lots of free watersports, tennis etc. and lots of smiling staff to pander to your every whim.

Really relaxing.

Just back (last week) from a weeks stay in The Residence. The location is absolutely fantastic being only a stone's throw from gorgeous white sandy beaches and with dramatic views out to sea and over the surrounding area. The pool area is also spotless and plenty of sun loungers for all.

Food wise its a mixed bag and though the quality of the food was solid, the cooking in the plantation restaurant felt a little out of date and would have been considered impressive 10 - 15 years ago. I would highly recommend trying the Lux next door for lunch as the food is of a far higher caliber. Breakfast buffet was always excellent.

The rooms are large but not incredibly well appointed. It would have been nice to have some more artwork, flowers, fragrance etc.

The staff are all incredibly friendly and with the exception of the bar, which is badly manned and in need of a face lift, the service was excellent.

The bar was pretty disappointing in general. The staff had obviously not been trained how to make a proper cocktail which i would say is essential in this sort of place. The physical bar was pretty underwhelming and it would have been nice to have seats around it to create a bit of a buzz.

All that being said, we had a fabulous time, though may want to consider paying a little extra if you want the finer elements of luxury which you sadly wont find here.

During the day, they are tepid, not cold. The air is very warm during the day but cools down in the evenings. There will be many days of rain as well as many days of hot sunshine. It is not overbearing and the sea is fresh, lovely, clean too.

Personally I found AI more convenient especially since I travelled with a toddler so 3 meals plus snacks everyday. But if you are able to do without 3 meals then half board is more than enough.
