Went there twice this week with friends and colleagues for lunch and snacks. Great pizzas and cold beer. Quick service. The mosquitoes can be a bit of a nuisance but the staff will readily bring some burning coils. Definetily recomended!

Pemba Magic Lodge or Russell's Place, as it's also known, is a great spot to hang out with a lovely bar serving really good food, super friendly and helpful staff as well as a pool onsite. Only a 1 min walk from the beach it's in the perfect location, away from the hustle and bustle of town. The rooms are...

We are regulars to this place as we work in Pemba and I must say apart from a couple occasions it has always delivered. Friendly staff, always with a smile in hand and good food. You should not miss this place when in Pemba! Very affordable as well :)

Pemba Magic Lodge (AKA "Russel's Place") is great - good food, great family environment, and prices are reasonable. Although we have not made use of the accommodation facilities, we often eat at Pemba Magic Lodge, and have found the place to be above average for Mozambique.

I have been to Pemba Magic Lodge many times over the years and have always enjoyed the food, the service and the guests, some of whom are locals and some, like myself, are passing through.Russell is a tremendous host and very helpful! I highly recommend a stay at the Pemba Magic Lodge, a very unique "shelter from the storm". Malcolm...

My visa to South Africa got messed up so I was quite down as I had to cancel flights and proceed to my next destination being mozambique. I walked into Russell's as I had no booking whatsoever and the manager Tamara was so nice...

Extremely impressed with the owner coming up to everybody in the huge bar area. Staff on all bases were friendly and helpful in getting to and away. We slept in the open 4/5 person dorm otherwise tents are available. No frills backpackers with a very good bar area and vibe there. Pemba itself just a pit stop for us to...

Magic lodge is in no way a 4/5 star hotel or resort, but they do not claim to be. What they offer is adequate lodging at a reasonable price for budget traveler. The bungalows are very rustic, making use of locally sourced materials. Part of the outside wall was built using cement and empty glass bottles (same with shower wall),...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The contruction of Pemba Magic Lodge began in 1998. It started out as a campsite with a few tents and a dormitory for backpackers. Soon “The Blackfoot Bar” became a local institution and favourite hang out place for locals and tourists alike. In time the construction of the bungalows began, all individually designed by Russel, and all using as much local products as possible. Today the place has several bungalows, a large restaurant and bar. Pemba Magic Lodge was long known as “Russel’s Place or simply “The Campsite”, but since 2008 the place started using it’s original name “Pemba Magic Lodge” . ... more   less
