I learned that the difference between hotel and hostel in Peru says nothing about the quality but only how many rooms a place has: a hostel is small, a hotel is big. In the case of the Helena Inn, hostel is also a statement about the poor quality. It is run down, somewhat dirty. Staff is friendly and lets you...

Unless you have the misfortune to be booked in as part of a group as I was, do yourself a favour and go somewhere else. Everything was ok at first but then we went on an overnight trip. When we returned our bags had been moved to a different room. No explanation was given, never mind an apology, and I...

This hotel is located on a hill on a narrow street and so you can never really see much of the outside. From what you can see, it isn't impressive at all and I would probably walk right past it. But once you get inside, it is really quite nice and cozy. The downstairs lobby is nicely decorated with a...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and although our room on the top floor next to the restaurant was clean, it was so cold with no heating. Our tv didn't work properly and we were disturbed early in the morning when people went for breakfast before we woke up which was annoying. There was also no lift so...

I comfortably stayed at this hotel for two months. I have stayed at a few hotels/hostals in Puno and the Helena Inn is by far the best place within its price range. The rooms are clean, fresh, bright, spacious and well decorated. Hot water is available 24 hours a day. There is cable television for those who miss english channels...
