Our tour operator booked this hotel for us and I wasn’t disappointed. The people on the front desk I thought were very helpful and the room we had was spacious and very clean. My only gripe was the fact that we were on the second floor, front of the hotel and as we slept with the window open, it was a bit noisy due to the flag pole rattling outside. Breakfast was sufficient, and the coffee was good as were the croissants, very fresh. Didn’t use the gym or sauna which was free and had a couple of meals in the bar area which were tasty. Very handy for metro Paveletskaya, only two stops to Red Square.
Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, it was not chosen by us but by our tour company. The reception staff are really miserable and do not smile very much, the room was really tiny and not cleaned very well on the first day I found a wooden stirrer on the floor. Breakfast not very good I would call it continental so you really could not fill up on it before going on your tour. The location is near to the metro and a supermarket and their is a lovely pizzeria 2 min walk away. Would I choose this hotel again no way.
This is very nice hotel, quite one with good food (small portion but high quality) at very good place - near to Paveletskaya metro and train station, long but nice walk (45 minutes) along with Moscow river to Red square, taxi transfer from/to airport organization possible ..... I could recommend it
This hotel was chosen by our tour company and we would not return if booking for ourselves. Our arrival was luke warm, no help with cases, but we were pleasantly surprised to see the size of our room, much larger than the standard. Unfortunately, the pleasure faded on realising the air conditioning didn't work. We reported this. On the first occasion, I was told the engineer would check it. On the next evening, on return from sght-seeing, there was no change and the room was sweltering. 2nd report, the receptionist seemed disinterested and used to hearing this, even asking if we had the windows closed. Yes, of course we had. On the 3rd report, the receptionist suggested we opened windows and tuned off the aircon! I explained we'd done that, but it didn't work as windows wouldn't stay open. So, 3 nights poor sleep in high temperatures. Good points: Plentiful breakfasts, with good variety for size of hotel. Reasonable choice for vegetarian. Staff in breakfast room were pleasant and efficient. Huge suite with hall area, large bathroom, separate shower and spa bath. Very clean rooms and pleasant communal areas. Access to spa area with fresh towels. Needs improvement: Lack of clarity about evening meals. We paid for the buffet being provided for a group on our 1st night, but it wasn't clear whether this was a routinely available. On another occasion, we were unable to order food at the bar. General lack of information about the close locality. Indifference about aircon. Not a quiet area if windows need to be open! The river view isn't worth the noise. Poor and slow bar service. Asked to pay extra for snack brought with 2nd round of drinks, when brought without charge on first order. We only used the bar more than once as tired from sight-seeing and heat. If service had been better we would happily have eaten in the hotel every evening and had more drinks. Sauna area needs updating. Scruffy wood. Spa bath in room leaked onto floor. Generally, the staff do not give the impression of being guest-orientated. They need to spend time in St Petersburg for training to see the difference!…
We recently spent several days in Moscow and the Katerina City Hotel was a great home base. The staff was friendly and most spoke English. They had a nice restaurant and bar, with a good breakfast buffet. We'd certainly recommend it to anyone interested in a visit to Moscow
