Alley Youth Hostel is well known among Travelers from Malaysia. My wife and I stayed in Alley Youth Hostel for 4 nights. My first impression of this hostel was almost similar to other budget hostel. My wife really surprised when we found that the room was so spacious, bed was as good as a five star hotel bed. Really superb. All amenities were available. We enjoyed watching Cable TV for the first night. Almost every staff at Alley Youth Hostel could communicate in English especially Steven. Steven he himself waiting for our arrival at the airport as our flight arrived at mid-night. Alley Youth Hostel is conveniently located in the Muslim Quarters whereby we enjoyed Halal Food. We visited almost all parts of Muslim Quarters especially the Grand Mosque and the nearby Bell Tower, Drum Tower and City Wall. We had an opportunity visiting the popular Terracotta Worrier with Steven. Our 4 nights stay was not enough. We will come again to visit Xi'an and definitely will stay at Alley Youth Hostel. This time with bigger group.

I stayed in alley youth hostel for 1 night with a friend. We booked a dorm room, but when we arrived we were upgraded to a private room free of charge The location is reasonably good with transport within walking distance and lots of street food around. There is a Wal-mart nearby that we went to for some supplies and was about 20 minutes walk. The hostel had very nice facilities and a lovely common area next to the lobby with a bar serving drinks and food at a cheap price The only bad thing was the wifi was terrible and couldn’t use the internet. But overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend

This hostel is an unbeatable price in a very cool neighborhood of Xi’an. I got a clean, private room, with great sunlight and a nice shower. The staff are incredible. From helping me mail postcards, to a guided tour around the old market, to a huge help — I had to go to the hospital for dehydration and the staff accompanied me, helped translate, and kept me company during a six hour IV drip. These are the best people. I’m forever grateful. Pro tip: the Google Maps location is incorrect due to Google being blocked by Chinese ISPs.

I’m from malaysia travelling to Xi’an China. Me and my husband travelled to Xi’an in february 2019. It was one of the final week of winter. Then again, don’t let “final week” of winter fool ya, it is still cold! Arrived xi’an with a -3 degrees celcius greeting us 🤣 the rest of the day is from 1-8 degrees celcius. Highest was 12, but only in the afternoon. After that the weather quickly reduced to 4,2,-1, 0 🤣 no snow, rain yes and my hands was freezing despite wearing gloves 🤣 I googled many places to stay in Xi’an and came across Alley Youth Hostel. I researched the place and many people gave this place an excellent choice to stay. It was affordable too! Kalau nak book tempat ni, I suggest book online. Compare harga2. Saya haritu book dekat booking.com. Time tu memang murah. 67 ringgit 1 malam utk dua orang. Booking kena guarantee pakai credit card. Tak kena cas pun. Bila sampai hostel baru bayar cash. CASH YE, bukan Credit card. Boleh je bayar credit card tapi line card diorang selalu off, jadi saya advice tukar duit ckup2 utk bayar. Bayaran FULL bila check in. Check out just bagi kunci bilik and bla. Dah x perlu nak bayar itu ini. Even though it is a hostel, they do cater two pax couple. Me and my husband booked a room with a single queen sized bed and with our own private bathroom. And let me tell ya it was SUPER Comfy! The room is clean. A heated shower. This is a hostel to don’t expect to have a wardrobe in the room 🤣 The place is SUPER strategic! Everywhere is walking distance! 5 minutes walk to muslim street. 5 minutes walk to the grand mosque. 7 minutes walk to the bell tower, 15 minutes walk to the ancient city wall where you can rent a bike there. Oh yea, me and the hubs rented bicycles to complete the wall, and it took us 1 and a half hour to complete 🤣 yes that is how huge it is 🤣 From the ancient city wall, we went down to North gate and from there walked straight until bell tower. Like seriously, bell tower is in the center, so if you got lost, just search for bell tower and I PROMISE you, you can find your way back. That is what me and my husband did. We did alot of walking and since the bell and drum tower is really near muslim street, you can easily familiarise the area instantly! Its all thanks to Alley Youth hostel whose location was strategic until me and my husband quickly familiarise ourselves around. Oh and the owner of the hostel is great too! He speaks really good english. You can request a map of the city and the map will help you move around the city with ease 👍🏻

I stayed here for 2 nights in April 2019 while touring through Asia. On one night of my stay I asked if there was desert on the menu. There was not, but the owner told me that he would give me the rest of his son's birthday cake instead. This generosity and accommodating behavior was characteristic of my whole stay and if I am ever in Xi'an again, I would opt to spend my time at Alley Youth Hostel. Also it is in the Musilm Quarter which is a plus as there are no shortage of food stands, vendors, and stores to shop in.

The place is amazing, located in the centre od Xi'an on one of the back streets. Our hosts spoke english very well, they were very kind and helpful. They upgraded our room from shared to a private one for free. The standard of the room is good, it was clean and comfortable. On the evenings there were movie nights and other cultural events organized. It was possibile to play some bar games and enjoy great drinks in the lobby. I highly recommend this place!

We are both Americans My son who is 16 and I 43 stayed here just 3 days ago and were so happy, that I will be coming back to Xi'an just to see Stephen and his family next year when I venture further South. This place is amazing! simply amazing!!! I have never been treated with such warmth and kindness in my life. Stephen and his family are wonderful people who run a well-oiled hostel. They offer laundry service, guided day and overnight trips, rent sleeping bags for overnight hikes. bicycles ( good working order) for the day just to name a few. It's clean and well kept. floors are mopped and the bathrooms are not dirty even the one on the main floor is clean. They have ice cold beer ready if you want, a working pool table, movies to watch on a projector, plenty of seating, and a very friendly cat! This Hostel just invites you to want to stay longer and enjoy a beer. The vibe is so relaxed and chill, as I said makes you want to just have a beer and enjoy the place. The property is located right off the main drag in the Muslim quarter across from the police station (which is your reference point for the hostel) for shopping and food. It's just a short walk like 15 min at an easy pace from the drum tower (must see). Stephen's father is a so cool my son very much enjoyed interacting with him and felt like he had a Chinese grandfather. Stephen and speaks great English and understands western slang well. All the front desk people speak English and have no problems with accommodating personal needs. I had Stephen plan an entire day trip for my son and I at the last minute. Like 2215 with being up at 0530 the next morning. He booked the train tickets, ensured the entire day trip was planned down to the last detail. Stephen knows his stuff. Even took us to the train station for the same price as a taxi Stephen and his family are fair and good people I have nothing but the kindest things to say about him. The pictures they have online are exact, the rooms are basic with clean sheets and clean floors. Again, this hostel sets the standard for others. Very family friendly! Ask him why he opened a hostel, simply heartwarming. He's a true mate and I am proud that I know him and his family. Please and I mean this.. please feel free to contact me about any questions you have about the city and Alley Youth Hostel. Brian

since our booked hotel couldn't serve foreigners they send us to this hotel. when i finally got there it was around midnight. the manager was very kind , luckily they still had some rooms available when we arrived. when i got to my room (very clean and nice room btw) i noticed that i lost my phone in the taxi that brought us there , so i went to ask at the reception and the manager immediatly started calling to the other hotel and with the taxi driver and i got my phone back , i can't thank the manager enough. for the rest , the staff was very nice , the food was very good and also the tour to the terra cotta army was very fun. thanks to the staff for the fun evenings at the bar and for teaching me some chinese words , i'll come back soon!!!

My stay with Alley Youth Hostel was one of the few parts of my solo China trip where I didn’t feel constantly on my toes - where I felt taken care of. I arrived in Xi’an via high-speed train from Chengdu, and after a harrowing experience at the Chengdu Train Station, it was a relief to get picked up by Steven, who owns the property. His clear English (in a land where practically no one speaks English even with my patched-up Mandarin) and outgoing yet calm disposition put me at ease immediately. On the ride ‘home’ we had interesting conversation about life in Xi’an. I was at my last leg of the trip, and really needed a place where I had some level of privacy and comfort, and my private room afforded that. For the price of the room, it exceeded my expectations. I’m generally not a fussy person (unless I’m paying for an upscale hotel), but I do need *clean*, and their rooms do give you that. It was nice coming back to a place where you can feel comfy and sleep easy after a full day of exploration. On my last day in Xi’an, Steven even gave a few of us a free tour of the old market, steeped with a thousand years of history. We learnt things we wouldn’t have otherwise picked up if we were exploring on our own. His wife sent me to Xi’an’s international airport - a lovely lady I had a few conversations with during my stay. You learn so much in these 1-1 conversations with the locals. All in all, definitely a place to recommend! Thank you, Steven and family. 🙏🏼
