Upon choosing this hotel, I considered location first then price. I was abit reluctant in choosing this hotel as the photos showed dated 3 star hotel. The reviews mostly were about how great its location is, but I didn’t find much info on anything else.

Thank goodness it exceeded my expectations.

We didn’t have to pre pay. The hotel sent an email asking for confirmation a day or two before arrival date . This gave me a peace of mind that they have my booking confirmed.

Some of us did not apply for membership but during check-in it was swift and easy. On the other hand I applied for a membership and had to use automated machine which I was very reluctant. But it was so easy and done within minutes!

They also gave some amenities for ladies which consisted of bubble bath, scrub, small warmer pack (it heats up and to put in pockets), cotton buds cotton wool.

The room was as clean as 5 Star hotels. There’s also an air purifier in every room.

If you don’t require towel changing nor room to be made, they offer you a coupon worth 500 jpy which I went out the back door and onto a 7 eleven convenient store to buy drinks. Win win for all. The hotel gets to save energy, Customer gets to contribute to help the environment as well as get 500 jpy worth (per day).

The location is so good. The back door opens up onto a covered shopping street. The underground subway/shopping is just steps away!!! The famous Odori Park is about 10-15 minutes away by foot. The Sapporo JR station is about 15 minutes by foot. If the weather is good then walk on the street, otherwise walk underground.

The receptionist always smile and not stingy when I requested for more ladies’ amenities.

Overall very happy with this hotel. I’m not shy to say it is the same standard (actually even better, but excluding space and quality of furnitures and amenities) than a famous 5 Star hotel I stayed in London.

Perfect location, it’s a bit hard to speak to front desk as I can’t speak Japanese and they can’t fully understand me.

Breakfast is good.. soup curry was yummy.
Location is so good , next door to don quiote and right at tanukikoji shopping strip.

Near odori station and 5 minutes from airport limousine.
Room is so big as well, so this definitely make up for the dated decor.

As for the 3 stars, the plumbing was a bit off in our room... we can smell it, but I know it’s just our room, and we can’t be bothered moving as we have so many luggage.

My friend who is on the other room do not experience the same issue..

We spent one night a triple-bed room as part of visiting the Snow Festival. The only "problems" were more design issues, such as the lighting. The floor in the bathroom seemed to have a slope to it, but I think that was for the floor drain. Everything worked fine, and we had a good night's sleep.

What I hadn't realized at the time I booked was just how well-placed this hotel is! I would definitely stay here again, especially if I was coming for the Snow Festival.

The front desk staff were very helpful, and there were good maps and other handouts in the lobby. The hotel is located about midway between Odori park and the Susukino site, so you could walk to either one. The back entrance of the hotel (you go past the restaurant) is just steps away from escalators going down to the Pole Town underground pedestrian mall, which connects to the subway stations, but you could walk all the way to the JR station if you wanted; and there were numerous shops and restaurants to visit.

We took an airport limousine bus from New Chitose airport. While it was convenient to not have to hold our large bags (they were stored underneath), the bus was crowded. Our stop wasn't at the Richmond Hotel, but a couple blocks away; my daughter walks with canes, so it wasn't the best way to arrive. We would have done better to take the JR train, and then walk in the underground mall. Anyone who is unsteady on uneven ground (or snow and ice), I'd recommend this option. The escalators come up in the alley between the Richmond hotel and the Mega Don Quijote store, which is covered, so you shouldn't have to worry about the weather to get into the back entrance of the hotel.

Pole town & underground shopping & supermarkets are very near the back entrance of the hotel . The back entrance of hotel also opens to a covered shopping alley for cosmetic shops & eating places. We took the airport bus that dropped near Susukino station & walked 10 mins to hotel .
Staff was friendly & helped us book restaurant on New Year’s eve. We were happy with our stay & decide to return to stay here on our return trip from Niseko to Sapporo

The Richmond hotel Sapporo Odori is located in the middle of the vibrant Odori and Susukino district. There are plenty of resturants and shops in the area. The main JR station of Sapporo is about 20-25 minutes by walk through the underground walkway. We did have difficulty in finding the correct exit for the hotel when we arrived at JR Sapporo. We found the underground walkway easily from JR Station and then one needs to walk towards Odori and pass the Odori station and continue to walk for another five minutes and look for exit to Pole Town or Exit number 10 (there are other exit 10s but do not take the ones before the Odori subway station). When you come out of the exit 10 at Tsutaya store, walk past the store and then take the second right where you will see the Richmond hotel.
The bus to the airport has a stop just five minutes by walk from the hotel and it is very convinient and costs 1030 yen.

This hotel seems to be centrally located in Sapporo and is easy to get to (we actually walked from Sapporo Station to the hotel with our luggage and if I were to guess, it was probably about a good 10 minute walk). It's right next to the Tanukikoji market. It is also within short walking distance of Nijo market, which by the way is a tourist trap. They were waiting for out-of-town suckers like us to show up (from my assessment, this market is for tourists only and serves no other purpose than to sell overpriced seafood to tourists because they think we don't know any better). We also walked from the hotel to the Sapporo Beer Museum (it took a while, but we made it), and we walked to the Sapporo Tower. In a nutshell, if you're willing to walk, you can get to where you want to go from the hotel.

The hotel and rooms seem a bit dated but you can't beat it for the location. Breakfast was very good with a wide variety of foods to choose from, and lots of fruits and veggies! I give them 5 stars for the abundance and availability of fruits and veggies at their breakfast buffet. Ask the front desk for recommendations on restaurants. They'll first ask you what you are interested in eating, and then will come up with some really good recommendations on where they would go.

So the question I always ask myself is "would I stay here again?" I would.

Stayed for 1 night and didn't have any expectation. We booked very last minute and only realized 90% of the hotel in Sapporo was booked during this weekend.

Have not stayed at this hotel brand before. This is one of the few hotels available at reasonable rate so we gave it a try. When we walked into hotel, it looked very old, especially wth it's dark wood color. However, the service of their front desk was very warm and helpful.

The location is about 12 mins on foot from the Sapporo station but only mins to Odori station. We were a bit disappointed at first when it was the day time because we were hoping to be nearer the big station. When at night, we realized we were totally wrong. The hotel is surrounded by all the great restaurant and when we exited from the back door, there was the shopping strip and some shops were 24 hours!!! Next time we come, we will choose this area again.

The only thing to complain was no onsen at the hotel and also no complimentary water in the room. Not much to complain about the size of the room as it is decent size to fit 2 big suitcases open. The bathroom has all we need.

We stayed at this hotel during the Snow Festival and couldn't have asked for a better location. Smack in the middle of the 2 festival sites (Odori Park for snow sculptures, and Susukino for ice sculptures), each located within 5-10 minutes walk.

The hotel itself was very easy to find whether walking above ground or from the underground pathway (via Pole Town), and being right in the middle of the Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade. Unless you're carrying a lot of luggage, there shouldn't be a need to take a taxi from JR Sapporo Station/Sapporo Station/Odori station as it's just a fairly straight stroll (South) to get to the hotel...about 15, 10, and 5 mins respectively. Also, the Tanukikoji street car stop is just around the corner of the hotel so in terms of access to public transportation, you have everything close by.

Tons of shops and restaurants all within a few minutes away. The dilemma would be what to eat as there are just too many choices! As for convenience stores, the is a 7-Eleven just across from the hotel (exit to Tanukikoji) and a Family Mart around the corner. Not to mention, even for burgers you have McDonald's, Lotteria and Mo's Burger just within a few minutes walk.

Both the hotel and the room we stayed in were very clean. I have to give credit to the cleaning staff as they were very meticulous, to the point that they topped up the shampoo, condition and body wash bottles everyday no matter how many pumps used! It was really very comfortable staying at this hotel for a few days knowing how well the room gets cleaned everyday.

Although we didn't make use of other facilities, there are 2 floors that has coin laundry available and a microwave for guests to use.

Front reception staff were very courteous and helpful. The check-in and check-out process was smooth, and staff were able to help send our luggage to the next hotel...makes travelling a lot easier and lighter.

First quick review is the superb LOCATION.
Really a great base for your Sapporo journey:
1. Located just around center between Sapporo Station, Odori and Susukino. So you have access to Toho, Tozai, and Nanbuko subway line
2. Just above the Sapporo Ekimae-dori underground walkway (Chi-Ka-Ho). This means, if you are bound from Sapporo Station, unwanting to take a taxi (which is less than Y1000 anyway), and/or in adventurous mode to walking 15-20 minutes away from the element (outside sunny/cold weather) then off you go. Just look for "Pole Town" mall vicinity, an escalator exit to ground level, and the hotel's door is already nearby.
3. The hotel's backdoor is just at the famous Tanukikoji-dori roofed pedestrian shopping district. Really great if it's raining/ snowing outside and you are looking for pharmacies, foods, souvenir shops, supermarket, etc. They are all nearby.
4. Odori Park is just 3 blocks away to the north.
5. Nijo seafood market is 4 blocks away to the east. So a great sushi/sashimi breakfast in Donburi-chaya stall is just minutes away :)
6. Quick access to McDonalds, Starbucks, Yoshinoya, 7-eleven.

Secondly, the hotel has 2 self-service laundry FACILITY on 6th and 10th floor with dryer function. This means you can bring only half of your usual clothing supply.
Just Y500-Y600 per 3kg laundry to have them washed and properly dried.
This is important if you plan to travel lighter and/or to have ample kgs in your luggage capacity to bring souvenirs later on.

We took the train from airport to JR Sapporo main station then subway to susukino station and walk about 300 metres to Richmond Hotel Odori. It is very convenient. I got no idea there is a free service from the airport to hotel.
