Probably one of my favourite hotels I went to in Japan due to the space and bathroom area. My first time using a high-tech toilet. It was very comfortable but not easy to get to in my opinion. Probably a 15 minute walk from the nearest underground station. Taxi is quicker from Sapporo station if you took JR.
This is a 10 year review so things are likely to have changed drastically. A very peaceful area though!

Location: We booked our hotel via Japanican.com for 1 night. The hotel is located in the heart of the shopping district, Tanuki Koji Shopping Street (狸小路商店街), it is found in 狸小路5丁目. It has straight rows of shops on both sides, so just keep a lookout to find the signboard of the hotel.

In the daytime, there are many students who hang out there. At night, there will be some street performers who sit outside closed shops to sing. Susukino area nearby also has a lot of night life. Good ramen can be found there. Those who like beef bowls, Matsuya and Yoshinoya, are nearby too.

Room: The room is extremely clean and modern. As expected, rooms are not very big, but everything you need is inside. It has a bathroom with bathtub inside and a toilet in a separate cubicle. The toilet bowl is electronic bidet type with warm toilet seat which was very considerate as it was cold outside. We booked a double room and the bed was from Simmons. So we had a very good night sleep.

Amenities: Found in the room are: hair dryer, electronic kettle, study table, television, washing basin (separated from toilet), sponge for bathing, comb and basic toiletries.

Service: Quick check-in and friendly staffs that greet you when you pass by the reception.

Value: We paid 7500yen/room/night. For the room that we got, we were very satisfied as we were only looking for a small hotel to stay for the night. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

The Watermark Hotel Sapporo on Tanukikoji Shopping Street was a very pleasant surprise. Getting there is convenient. Taking the Namboku subway line two stops from Sapporo Station to Susukino Station is an option, but walking instead either above or below ground has its own rewards, and the walk straight there isn't much longer than the total time spent in taking the subway. You can reach the hotel from the underground Pole Town shopping street, using the Tanukikoji Exit (left from Susukino Station or right from Odori Station); it has a narrow escalator. Go straight, cross the street, and you'll see Sapporo Drug Store on the right corner. The hotel is a little further down the block on the left side, just past the Hokkaido Tourist Center, The lobby can be reached from Tanukikoji Street via a sliding glass door to the right of their organic restaurant (or from the next street over).

The two rooms I had in this three star hotel over two weekends were among the cleanest I've stayed in, including those in four and five star hotels. Hand soap, body soap, shampoo, and conditioner are in big pump bottles. Disposable razors, toothbrushes, cottton swabs, brushes, slippers, "body sponges," and tea bags are refreshed each day. The room has a hot pot, humidifier, lint brush, shoe shine wipes, shoe horn, and folding luggage rack. There is no closet; a limited amount of clothes can be hung on a short rod. The bed, all in white, was very comfortable for me. A hard and soft pillow were provided. There is a TV on the desk, and a LAN cord. Wifi was good, Information about the location of nearby services such as banks and convenience stores was provided in English on a map. The bathroom and toilet room were spotless. Water pressure was good on the 9th and 12th floors. The air conditioning worked wonderfully. The hotel was quiet - I heard no noise from the street.

You can choose to have your room made up completely or not at all; in between, there is the eco clean, in which the bed is made but the sheets are not changed, and the towels are not replaced. The eco clean choice results in a free bottle of water.

The breakfast is a buffet in the restaurant. If you are hungry in the morning, I recommend getting the breakfast. Grilled fish, bacon, eggs, and more made up one section; another section had Japanese food - two hot Japanese dishes, curry, soup, brown rice, and white rice, and various toppings. Croissants and other rolls, salad, fruit cocktail, yogurt, and little bites of dessert were also available. There were several kinds of beverages. In the summer, breakfast starts at 6:30.

Checking in and out was smooth; even if the front desk clerks didn't speak very much English, all tried to get the job done efficiently. One last thing - the first day I arrived early and asked them to hold my luggage until check-in. When I checked in, my luggage had already been taken to my room. All in all, the Watermark is an excellent place to stay.

This boutique hotel is smack right in the middle of Tanukikoji Shopping Street (Chome 5)where you'll find many restaurants & shopping nearby including a 24 hour Mega Don Quijote store. Odori subway station is a good 10 min walk away & is accessible via an underground path from Tanukikoji Shopping Street itself. Sightseeing places are all within walkable distance. Most importantly, the airport bus stop is just a minute walk away opposite Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo. Though my single room was small as expected in Japan, it was clean & compact with a separate shower room & toilet. Would like to express my appreciation to the hotel for changing the smoking room I booked to a non-smoking room.

We stayed at the Watermark Hotel for three nights in October 2017. We chose this hotel based on its central location near the Susukino district of Sapporo as well as its price point. Two other highly redeeming qualities are its very new and clean bathrooms and its direct connection to the covered pedestrian shopping street called Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade. The hotel rooms overall felt very clean and new so it’s possible there may have been a remodel, which would explain why the bathrooms are also so new. I particularly like that the toilet and bath are in separate rooms and the sink is in the main part of the room. This allows room occupants to maximize their time and efficiency. I also like the Japanese style bath meaning, there is a sit down wash area next to the soaking tub. As for the Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, other reviews have not been so kind. You will not find any luxury goods on this street. Most of the shopping consists of souvenir stores, drug stores, and some restaurants. However, this street is very convenient for regular goods such as toiletries, snacks, and clothes. It also allows complete coverage from the weather from JR Sapporo Station all the way to the hotel. The only real drawback of Tanukikoji, in particular the part that is nearest this hotel, are the large crowds from Chinese tour groups that shop at the drug stores. We noticed this at many drug stores in the area. If you just want to buy some dental floss you may be stuck in a long line.

Our room was very small but very comfortable. From the photo of the floor map behind the door (see attached photos) it looks like the room we stayed in was among the larger rooms and there are other rooms that are even smaller. We had a window that afforded a partial view of the city.

The room also does not have any closets. There is only a hook on the wall next to the bed with some clothes hangers. If space for clothes or luggage is important, you may want to book a larger room just to have the space.

The hotel does not have an onsen unfortunately. However we still enjoyed our stay and felt the location and quality of the rooms made for a great value.

Perfectly adequate hotel, in great, central location, with Susukino and Odori Park within easy walking distance. Breakfasts were nice, and for dinner, we either went to the summer beer festival in nearby Odori Park or Negra Pantera, a few doors from the hotel, which is a supercool bar that's open all night. Hotel has two exits, one onto the main street at the front, and one onto a lovely, covered shopping arcade at the back. Planning to return, August 2016, for 2nd honeymoon.

Am glad to hv selected Watermark over others in same areas. The hotel is fairly new. The guests here are mostly individual travelers. Unlike another one close by is full of tour groups. Hence environment is a lot quiet, not crowded. It's located at shopping lane full of eateries. Unlike 1 comment I read it's very easy to locate. Just go towards 5 狸小路, Watermark Hotel flag is also hang high outside hotel. Airport limo stop is also close by.

Am esp impressed by their service. They allowed me to store my luggages 1 day before checkin; when I returned around 1pm next day, I could check in coz most hotels checkin time is after 3 pm; the best thing was they hv already delivered my left luggages in my room. No hotels will provide such extra service. I will certainly stay at tis hotel again and strongly recommended. Thumbs up !!

Good price, great location in the heart of Susukino and the rooms are modern and so clean that you wonder if the hotel just opened. Maybe it did, who knows, but anyway - they're clean!

Now, there's no English sign. I took a picture of the sign in Japanese and will attach it this review, so if you see this - you're there!

To give a little background - I live in Japan and spend a lot of time staying at faceless "business hotels" around over the country. They're all under the 10,000 yen price point and frankly this is the best one I've ever stayed in, which is why I was compelled to write a review. When I return to Sapporo in future, I will book this immediately and without hesitation. Strongly recommended.

We stayed here 2 nights. The hotel was nice and modern. We had breakfast included whihc was fine. Typical hotel breakfast of both western and Japanese foods. The staff were friendly and spoke english well.

The room itself was nice and new. Fairly roomy too. Bathroom was the usual small capsule type which is often the case. The location was great. We were in sapporo for the snow festival and the hotel was easy walk to all the the main places.

I would stay here again.

Watermark Sapporo is accessible via the covered walkway of the Tanukikoji shopping arcade through a small door beside South Saloon restaurant. Hotel is located within the Tanukikoji shopping area and Pole Town so you can easily find convenience stores, pharmacies, restaurants, Don Quijote, Daiso, etc right below the hotel. The Chitose Airport bus stop is also just 1 min walk away. You can also choose to walk from Odori subway station or Susukino subway station if taking the JR from airport (but need to change to subway Namboku Line at JR Sapporo Station).

No issues with noise as our twin room faces another building (we stayed in rooms 811 and 412 on two different dates). No view either but does not matter to us since we are out most of the time. The twin room is definitely more spacious and allowed us room to walk comfortably even with 2 large luggage open.
Breakfast was not included in our stay so can't comment on that. Hotel provides electric kettle, humidifier, electrical outlets above the bed, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, comb, cotton buds, towels.

The hotel staff can understand but do not speak English well. Hotel does not provide bottled water unless you opt for their Eco Cleaning service so best to get your water from the convenience stores below otherwise you will have to pay JPY140 to get one 550ml bottle from the vending machine at level 2.
We asked for complimentary late check-out (till 1145am, checkout time is 11am) on our last day as our flight doesn't leave until 4pm but was told we have to pay JPY1000 for that instead.
The toilet is separated from the bathroom (which I feel is good) but the toilet is so small it'll probably be an issue for people of bigger size. If you have an issue with this then better to opt for a hotel with combined toilet & bath.
