Quintessa Hotel Sapporo 23 Feb to 7 Mar 2019

Reception was professional and quick. The staff are polite, friendly and do their best to communicate with limited english. It would help if I spoke Japanese, but sadly I don’t.

The room was large as booked and met expectations. While the size is reasonable compared to many others in Japan, the configuration is just adequate being long and narrow, with limited windows.

The bathroom was large and had a separate shower and bath. A warm toilet seat is a great touch in a very cold environment especially in a cold February winter. The bathroom is well appointed.

Wifi worked well and is complimentary with our room. The TV is of a good size, but did not have any English speaking channels. There were about six Japanese-only channels. They play nice soothing, mostly American, music in the public areas.

Location was ok and about 10-15 minutes easy walking to the city centre. Unfortunately in February and March many of the footpaths can be covered in snow making walking a challenge with many slippery sections. Be careful.

I didn’t see nor use the Concierge services.

Airconditioning is a bit noisy at night and can be heard while trying to sleep. However, it works well and keeps the room warm.

The room rate was well below normal due to it being winter and the Coronavirus which has stopped many tourists.

Overall a pleasant experience thanks to the friendly staff. Happy to stay here again. Thank you.

Great location, a quick walk from the shopping areas of Sapporo and close enough to Odori Park if you are going for the snow festival. The staff were super friendly and courteous (but when was the last time you encountered poor service in Japan??) The room was pretty average. Our bathtub was large, great for long soaks, but the floor of the shower was grimy, didn't feel properly cleaned. The faucet in the shower was broken, so the only option was a scalding hot shower. Normally I don't mind a hot shower, but when the temperatures are warm in the room itself, I don't enjoy it one bit. The warm temperatures were uncomfortable, but that is the norm in Japan. The beds were nice, wide and the third bed we requested ended up NOT being a hide-away bed which was a pleasant surprise.

We first arrived and had no idea where to check in, hidden at the back of the lobby. We were 15mins early and were not allowed to go to our room yet. We went out to explore Sapporo while waiting for our room to be ready right on 2pm. We quickly noticed how far away it was from everything. We got back to the hotel about 4pm as the sun was setting. We got to our room and bags were waiting for us in there. The rooms felt very dated and stuck in the 90's. The sheets were new, fresh and inviting. The bed however was very hard. The bathroom was old and the bath had a gap of about a centimetre from the wall at one end. The sink for the bathroom was outside next the bed. The room felt dark. In the morning we noticed it had the smallest window we had ever seen in a hotel. The staff were lovely and were able to communicate quiet well in english most of the time. Google translator helped a lot.
Not the most amazing place, most likely wouldn't stay here again however.

Upon arrival we were a little put off by the rooms, I had to try several rooms before settling on one that didn't stink of stale tobacco smoke, all these rooms were non smoking, although this didn't look like it was enforced with ashtrays in the rooms.
Decor was a little 90's and whilst maintained, looked tired. The room itself was huge, by Japanese standards, and makes for a nice change in a country of boxlike hotel rooms. The hotel is located about 20-25 minutes walk from Odori park and the TV tower, although the hotel is in the red light district, so makes the walk a little off putting at night.
They offer free LAN internet in the rooms, wifi in the lobby only.
For around $70 a nite, there are better options closer to the center of town.

The hotel is a short walk from Nakajima Koen station, but the map provided by the hotel's website wasn't much help and I had to ask for directions from a few people along the way.

Hotel staff were friendly and patient. I was the only one in the group who could speak Japanese so my aunts kept throwing questions at me to ask the front-desk staff and the guy who attended to me was very accommodating even through my aunts kept cutting our conversations off with their questions.

Very satisfied with our rooms. They were clean and spacious and the bathrooms in that hotel are huge. We have a shower and a bathtub complete with good quality soap and shampoo.

i booked a triple room and was delighted that they had western sized beds which were almost 1.5 larger than the japanese configurations.

we had a mini suite, there was a small lounge area with a large sofa and a coffee table. there were two single beds and an extra cot that was the same size as the normal beds.

there is a wonderful view of a giant ferris that lights up at night from the room that was assigned to us.

the toilet was huge, almost as big as the room, it had separate shower and bath. the bath even had 2 different settings on the jazcuzzi. the shower had 5 shower heads on different heights.

the only draw back was the smell of stale smoke, they had an ionizer in the room which helped to reduce the smell quite a bit.

another drawback is the distance. although it is within an 1/2 hour walk from sapporo station, it is not easy to walk that distance with 9 bags and 3 people. the taxi fare was reasonable, 1000 yen to the station.

the big plus point was english channels!! i got to watch AXN!! and directly at the door is a lawson where you can get snacks at 2 am.

we spent 4 nites at this hotel. 2 Convenient stores right in front of the hotel; super convenient! 4 min walk to the nearest subway station and 3 stops to Sapporo station. We had the family room and it fits in comfortably for4 single beds. The room and the toilet are super clean! noted that the hotel just did a renovation. Everything smell and feel new and clean! Weakness - the pillows too small and uncomfortable, we asked for extra pillows. Also, there is no bell boy to assist with the luggage, no room services, anything u need, u need to go down to the front desk to ask for support.

The lobby was nothing to talk about but our room was big and modern, the bathroom was North American sized, which was unusual in Japan. Nice lighting. Though the cleaning could be improved, Convenient location.

What we love most:
• Big room for Japan standards
• 5 mins walk from train station
• Quiet neighborhood
• Close to Susukino, Odori, and Nakajima Koen park
• Newly renovated rooms
• Comfortable stay
• Across 24hrs convenience store
• Friendly and efficient staff (front desk and housekeeping)

What hotel needs to improve on:
• Lacks amenities
- no safe deposit in the room; you need to leave valuables in concierge
- no complimentary water
- no English channel
