I was at the Royton Sapporo Hotel in the month of March and it was amazing. The entire city was covered in snow and my stay was awesome. It was just a 2 mins walk from the nearest underground metro station and was close to tram as well as bus stops. The fountains at Odori Park was also a mere 10 mins walk which takes to the heart of the city. Royton Sapporo can be called as an upscale hotel with a distinct charm and of its own. The reception for me was quick and warm. The stay was nice. Rooms were not so big but no regrets. The hotel has a couple of Japanese and Chinese food joint if I remember correctly as well as a in house bar and an airy cafe. There's an indoor shopping area too plus a wellness area with a fitness room, an indoor pool, a sauna and a spa. All in all, a good place for a short stay.

Japan have one of the highest hotel room rates in the world and if you found hotels less than 200 USD you are in for a small space but amazingly in Sapporo hotels are pretty spacious. Despite in Japan their rates are half of that in Tokyo or Osaka including Royton hotel. At just 100 sgd you have a room with a view of Niseko mountains and downtown niseko with huge windows. The hotel is located near Nishi 11 Chome station which you need to turn right upon exit. The lobby is huge and very grand. The check-in is fast and convenient. The room wi-fi is fast compared to other 4 star hotels. The bed is very comfortable plus the soft pillow. We have a coffee table with sofa chairs just in front of the mountain view - which is magical and enchanting. They don't provide complimentary water but there is a kettle and mini fridge. TV offers mainly local channels plus CNN. They have safety lock, hangers, and abundance of generous toiletries. The tub is also divine and relaxing. Heating is perfect both in the room and the toilet. Despite located in Central Sapporo there are very few restaurants or shops nearby except for 2 mini marts in front of the hotel. They allowed us to check-in early and we checked out a bit late almost a quarter past 11 ET which is the check out time. Overall despite an overnight stay we did enjoy the magical moment and our sleep is really relaxing. Definitely a must try if you want an option for a great mountain view and less touristy place in Sapporo.

We stayed for 4 nights at this property during the winter festival so a lot of hotel prices sky rocket at this time so we booked ahead and this hotel was under $200 a night which is pretty good at that time of year and can walk to winter festival within minutes. Yes the hotel is getting a little tired but it’s clean comfortable and large rooms. It seems a lot of the hotels in Sapporo do not have windows that you can open in rooms so even in the middle of winter and unbelievably cold outside the rooms can get stuffy and there is no aircon, we had to ask for a fan. I like some fresh air but other hotels we have stayed at in Sapporo even 5 star have the same deal. Doesn’t seem to be a hotel that is popular for breakfast or dinners but there are so many restaurants near by it doesn’t matter. Location good, staff friendly enough, not too far from train station, there’s a pool but I think you may have to pay to use it, Tip, get a higher floor level if you can.

During the Christmas season, hotels were either booked up or very expensive so we booked the Royton for a 3 night's stay. The place provided for our main requirement - a comfortable stay at a cheaper price. The staff were friendly and the size of the room was big. Location wasn't bad. It was a few minutes walking distance from a subway station but we still found it a little inconvenient as the subway station wasn't one of the main stations and if we wanted to go to Sapporo station, we had to change to a different line after one stop. Travelling on the subway isn't cheap and being one subway station away from Odori, it seemed a waste to buy a subway ticket for one stop. We mainly walked from Odori station to the hotel. It's probably a 15 minutes walk but in sub zero temperatures, it sometimes felt a bit long. We opted for a room with a double bed but we were given twin beds which wasnt a problem. What bothered us most was the ventilation in the room. We asked for a non-smoking room but the room smelt like numerous smokers had occupied the room in the past. The windows couldn't open so we couldn't let in some fresh air even when the room got too hot from the heating. We also feel like the heater in the room made the room smelt more 'smoky'. Even the vent in the bathroom felt useless in letting air escape. Like what other reviewers said, the rooms definitely needs an update. Everything felt very dated.... the curtains, the carpets, the furniture. Besides the bed, I was sceptical in using the other furniture. The room was not soundproof at all. We could hear guests in the corridor and even in the next room, but this was also because we happened to have noisy neighbours. The Internet in the room was also quite unstable at times.

Spacious room with nice view. Free parking. Other than that, this is a large, impersonal business hotel with minimal to no hospitality vibe. Only 2 packs of green tea next to the kettle, no coffee. There is a sign that say "Dear Guest, please use vending machine for drinks". Wth? Drab location with nothing surrounding it. Quite a distance to walk to Susukino.

Room is spacious. Location is good. Walking distance to shopping main street and main park. That's about it. Nothing sexy or impressive. Breakfast is so so. Yet everything works so I can not complain either.

I really liked the location near the Subway station. You can also reach many nice spots without the Subway (odori Park etc.) My room was at the 16 floor I think. I had a very nice view over the part ofthe city facing towards the ski jump (there was Olympia in the past) The staff was friendly, but the trainees from abroad (mostly Scandinavian) had been very good and helpful. Biggest con was the Gym. If you want to do some training, you have to pay 3500 + a fee for "Special Shoes". This was very disappointing, because if you want only 1 hour at the gym, you pay 3500¥ -> There is only a day pass option. Breakfast was okay, it was really nothing special and the furniture could use a little refurbish. All in all, for price/performance it was quite good. But the problem with the GYM had caused a really bad experience.

I'm typically travel with my wife, even if this is a business trip. We like travelling together. My wife is very sensitive to conditions in hotels, especially if there is dirt and poor maintenance. Now you will understand why I talk on this. We have a long flight from US to Japan, shortly stay in Tokyo, another flight to Sapporo airport, train from airport to Sapporo station, taxi to hotel... A bit tired... The hotel exterior and lobby area looked good enough. Finally we come to reception and soon have keys from our room on 15th floor (we booked a "larger" room). On 15th floor, in hallway, carpet looked as it was never vacuumed. Smell was as in an old dorm. 4-stars hotel !!! more than $300 per night !!! The room conditions were even worse. We were frustrated. In 1/2 hour we go out for a meeting and asked to vacuum the room, at least. Coming back in next 2 hours, we were offered another room, on 16th floor with exact same location and number, one floor above. This room was nice! Many extra amenities, air ionizer (to mitigate the smell, I guess), clean and comfortable. We stayed 5 nights there and were quite satisfied. The general impression is mixed, mostly positive though. Briefly pros and cons. Pros: - VERY helpful and friendly staff (as we assumed to meet in Japan); - VERY good breakfast (highly recommend); - nice lobby, fast elevators; - three or four restaurants on-cite; - big (for Japan) room; - shuttle bus to Sapporo station (we were no aware on this at the beginning). Cons: - some floors and rooms are not well maintained; - some amenities look outdated; - sophisticated on-line booking system, at least in English,- we struggled a lot but were forced to book this hotel on a third party site; - the restaurant we visited was quite expensive for dinner. Good luck with your room, guys!

This hotel's location would be great if you were a conference organiser keen to make sure that your participants don't have any distractions, or in a tour group being bussed everywhere. It is 30 mins walk from the station, or a change of line on the subway and a bit of walking. The area is very uninteresting, and it's 30 mins walk to Susukino. The nearest convenience store is small and understocked. Others are two blocks away. The hotel itself is fine, just a bit formal and starched. check in and out were quick and efficient. My room was large and comfortable.

One thing that i love in Japan is the state of the art toilet seats which are available in almost all hotels in japan. The staff are very much accommodating and helpful to their guests' needs. The hotel is a walking distance to Don Quixote, a store which sells almost anything for a much lower price. Be sure to keep your receipts for those tax refunds!
