My Favourite hotel on a week trip to Japan. The hotel is very well situated only a short walk from the main station. The staff are the friendliest people you will ever meet and so welcoming, they also speak excellent English and are extremely helpful in advising on travel routes, we rode buses confidently with their assistance. The room was...

The hospitality at Ohanabo was exceptional. The English speaking staff was very helpful in helping us navigate around Kyoto, and went above and beyond to provide us with assistance and comfort. We did not have dinner at the ryokan, but the Japanese breakfast was really wonderful. Our room was very large, clean, comfortable, air-conditioned, and included a bathroom. I hope...

Stayed there with my son. The Ryokan is in a very good location one can walk from train station. The people working there are super super nice. They take care of you like a true guest that they are honored to have. Very helpful staff to call restaurants for reservations, etc. Price is very low and for quality of service...

What a wonderful experience. Staff could not be more friendly and helpful. And this is a real traditional Japanese experience. Exactly what I was looking for for my 50th birthday celebrations. Breakfast is outstanding. Loved it, and so near to the station making it a perfect base in Kyoto. Kyoto itself is beautiful and well worth the visit and everything...

Stayed 1 night with my mum in March - and what a lovely experience. I've stayed at several Ryokan's in Kyoto before, but for my mum, this was her first time. And I have to say, this has been the most warm and welcoming Ryokan experience I've tried so far - Ohanabo's staff went above and beyond to make our...

What an amazing experience, the staff are so friendly and extremely helpful, we felt as though we were welcomed as part of the family. The accommodation was delightful and we loved getting the real Japenese experience. Breakfast was amazing. When you walk out the front door you see a Japanese Temple. An easy walk to the station and the buses.......

I don't think my review will convey the amazing experience I had in Ohanabo, but here goes. I spent 3 nights in Ohanabo, a ryokan located strategically close to Kyoto Station and opposite Higashi Honganji. My room was 201 - かわいい花: a very beautifully decorated and spacious room with intricate details that just scream Japanese. The futons were very comfortable...

My husband and I stayed at Ohanabo for two nights during our trip to Kyoto earlier this month. I had booked this accommodatin back in December, but even then was unable to get longer than the two nights that I had booked. The ryokan is so clean and cozy and I wished I could have spent a longer time there!...

I don't even know where to begin....This Ryokan was the most amazing place. The staff was beyond friendly and the meals were so amazing. We did the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast the first day which was terrific and so filling. The second night and morning we had the Shabu Shabu and the western breakfast. The beef was melt in...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
