the best part of this ryokan is location, only few steps away from JR station (stress-free when you're getting to Kyoto with big luggage), cafes and starbucks, malls, bus stop, restaurants and convinience stores. Its japanese athmosphere is very strong; the gate, floor, door, shower room and toilets, interior of the room with tatami, sitting table and hot tea pot....

Fujiya ryokan is located about 5mins walk from Kyoto station. Turn right when you see family Mart convenient store and turn left into a small alley (when you see a Japanese resto), walk for 2 mins and you will be there! The place is clean and cozy. It's actually pretty spacious as compared to other ryokans that I visited. There...

We had two lovely nights in this decent ryokan. It was just 5 minutes walk from Kyoto Station with a friendly family running the place. The room was more spacious than we had imagined and was in authentic Japanese ryokan style. As a budget ryokan, although it did not provide any meals just like the other places, there were tasty...

Excellent service and location. Lovely landlady who also helped us with finding locations in Kyoto and making phone translations in Japanese for our needs. A very clean, comfortable, modern/traditional ryokan with all the basic amenities met for our needs in a few days. Although our twim tatami style bedroom wasn't large and sometimes a bit noisy in the morning, it...

This is a very homely ryokan. The breakfast (which we paid with the room) was very good. Dinner was overwhelming good consisting of a great variety of dishes. The wagyu steak was scrumptious. The hot springs were very clean with 2 for women and 2 for men. If you wish to dig your own pool in the river bed you...

We arrived a little late in Kyoto tired from our round trip. It was convenient to be so close to the train station. That neighborhood is not the most historical experience and I wish we did the effort to go a little further in town right away since we were not staying a long time. The minimum was there (...

We stayed here 4 nights while in Kyoto and were more than happy with everything! Breakfast was traditional Japanese style, as are the rooms and sleeping arrangements. The lady who runs this ryokan is very nice and welcoming, and looks after the guests very well. Very clean, comfortable and quiet, I can't recommend this place more. If we do come...

Its a nice petit ryokan closes to station, very convenience. Many shopping centres and facilities around there. The host of ryokan is quit cool, she mentioned a lot we have to back to hotel before 11pm, otherwise they will be closed. Also they didnt mentioned which bathroom we can use, and finally they said we're wrong. The breakfast is nice...

This is a smalll family-run hotel, with super-convenient location of just one-minute walk from Kyoto station. My husband & I enjoyed staying there for 4 nights. The owner was very attentive, who offered towels to us when we rushed back in a sudden heavy rain. Also, Emily, the female cat kept by the family, was so adorable. She greeted us...

My husband and I stayed in this ryokan for 6 nights without meals. The family who run this ryokan are very friendly and hospitable and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. For the price, we were quite pleased. It is located about 2mins from Kyoto main station which is extremely convenient. There is free wireless internet...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
