I share my room with my friends. Well, it is clean. Although the bed was on the floor, but I still felt comfortable when sleeping. Next, the owner of the guesthouse speak out the best English among the people I talk with in Japan, she made me understand faster compared to other guy, she also navigate me to the tourist...

The place really needs a make-over. The pictures must be from the opening many years ago. The toilet can't flush properly, drain is broken, tapestry is loose everywhere, NOT clean at all. You have to carry your luggage up a very narrow staircase. I think it is expensive for whar it is. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But it is...

Clean hotel in a safe location, just up the street from Gojo Station or a 10 minute walk to Kyoto Station. Hotel was a little difficult for us to find (Google Maps is useless), but if you're coming to Kyoto Station, leave through the Central Gate and find Kyoto Tower (it's the tall building right in front of you -...

The owners are very kind and friendly. We stayed for 5 days April 2015. The rooms are basic, but very clean and comfortable. The kitchen and laundry feels like being at a friendly neighbor's house. The location is near the Fresco grocery and bus and train station. Prices are very reasonable. You get what you pay for a small hotel....

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
