This is a authentic ryokan stay! from the room to the food. You might want to book this place if you want to experience ryokan. The food was superb, they call it kaiseki, in which they will let you experience the food with their fancy presentation. Their onsen has a good view of the bridge. Then have indoor and outdoor...

This is our first time visiting a Ryokan and we really enjoyed our stay especially soaking in the onsen and experiencing the warm hospitality. We were a bit lost after getting out of the Arashiyama station as there were no road directions and had to ask for instructions though we were told that it was a short walk. Met a...

First time staying in a ryokan and onsen. Room Suisen has a good view of the river of arashiyama and the togetsu bridge. Everything was wonderful, from onsen to Kaiseki dinner (dishes were exquisite!) the owners were very warm and personalized. Good location, wonderful experience in arashiyama. I won't forget this trip!

Stayed at this delightful, warm and friendly family managed Ryokan. It was a first time for me and my family to experience the warm hospitality with radiance smiles and traditional feel but unfortunately my stay is only one night. The food (both dinner and breakfast was included) were simply amazing with the freshness of the local produce and the seasonal...

My wife, who is Japanese, booked one night at this lovely Ryokan. It's a short walk from the train station. The setting in very nice, along the river and just over the bridge. Our room was lovely. My wife was concerned about me sleeping tatami-style, so she booked the one room with raised beds but that room was facing the...

From the JR Saga Arashiyama train station, the ryokan is about a 15-20 minute walk away, across the main bridge and a smaller one. You'll see it as you cross the bridge on the right, with the boats along the river. It is less than 5 minutes to the bustle of the main street in Arashiyama with its many shops....

After a chilly day strolling through the temples and gardens and taking pictures of people in their beautiful kimonos among the red Japanese maple trees, it felt wonderful to return in the evening to this ryokan and soak in the hot mineral bath. The baths are small but very comfortable and relaxing. The kaiseki dinner served in our room was...

My wife and I stayed here for one night and we had such an amazing experience here. The location is walking distance to the bamboo forest and the Monkey Park. The accommodations were perfect! We booked the Orchid Room with the stone bath and it was very peaceful and relaxing after our day of walking and taking in the sites....

We stayed here just for one night. It was an incredible experience. Highly recommended! We did some research about onsens and this was one of the few that allowed people with tattoos to their onsen. The staff was very nice and very accommodating. A free shuttle picked us up from the train station and we left our bags in the...

This ryokan is next to the Togetsuyo bridge. Like the Heian nobles of yore who were into incense smelling as a past time, I was given a selection of incense infused paper to choose from & take a whiff. The tatami room and rooftop onsen were awesome. The kyo-kaiseki was so delicious & breakfast was quite elaborate. Arashiyama means storm...

Staying in Western Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and impressive vistas during the Hanami cherry blossom viewing season mean that it is busiest in warmer months, though also gorgeous in the fall, when the mountains and hills along the banks turn multi-colored. Historic and engaging, even the rail cars in Western Kyoto seek to exemplify its traditional nature and scenic beauty. Many people, including natives, come to visit the 1,200 rakan statues at the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, which is still in use as a religious site.

“We had a 7.5 tatami room, the smallest type provided by Hanaikata, but it was big enough for two girls. Located in 2nd floor, the room was opened to the scenic point, Togetsu Bridge, and it was easily seen by pedastrians on bridge. It is recommended to pull curtains up when dressing Yukata up.”
