Friendly, polite, and helpful staff with great English. Our room was on the small side but well-designed and had everything we needed to be comfortable for our brief stay in Kyoto. The rooms are “apartment”-style – so have refrigerators, a hot plate, etc. If you don’t need this, you may be able to save a bit of money by booking...

Citadenes has good staff on reception who are happy to help with all matters. Location is only one stop from Kyoto station and can be walked in about 15 minutes. Can also walk the other way to Gion with lots of shopping and restaurants. Enough local restaurants nearby if you don't want to go far to eat. Citadenes has a...

Typical Citadines premise ideal for families and cost conscious travellers. Ideal location metres from Gojo station and accessible to airport limousine bus. Good grocery store nearby and adequate restaurant and fast food outlets in vicinity. Premise and apartment very clean with helpful and courteous staff. We ended up here because by the time I got around to booking a room during cherry blossom season there weren't a lot of options. On the positive side, the cost was reasonable and the staff was most friendly and helpful. The premises are clean and pleasant. We were pleased that the hotel had a self-service laundry. Our room, however,...

We chose Citadines because we had our kids traveling with us. we requested for the extra bed and it was perfect for our family. there were also several eateries beside the hotel including a McDonald's, Yoshinoya and Coco Ichiban Curry House. Fronting the hotel is a convenience store. it has a subway right in front of the hotel and the...

I thought this hotel was okay. It's definitely not a quaint Japanese experience, and I probably should have looked for that. The breakfast wasn't the greatest for me as there was a lot of dairy and gluten which I don't eat. Laundry took a long time, and there were only a few washer/dryers (and you must pay for it). The...

I was pleasantly surprised with the size of the room, very clean about 20 minutes walk from the station. Staff were very helpful with all the questions we asked about bus stops, metro, places to visit etc. It was more like a stay with relatives then a large Hotel. I will certainly stay here next year when I return with...

It's a good hotel. Room size is good. Have a small kitchen with all the cooking tools and a small living space separated out from the bed space. Good location, has some nice restaurants near by, has convenient store, drug store, and supermarket near by. Nice hotel, nice service. Employees are friendly.

My tween daughter and I stayed here for four nights, and loved it! We are vegetarian plus a picky eater so we stayed in places with kitchenettes. We used our kitchen for breakfast and dinner most days - our twin bed room was setup with dishes for two. It was only about 30 seconds to walk to the Exit #1...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
