I liked staying here(3) nights. The hotel staff were very pleasant, professional, helpful and on 2 occasions went that little bit extra to help us. Breakfast was simple, but enough to get us going for the day, and very reasonablely priced. I liked the hard bed, my husband did not. We are used to larger pillows and the staff were...

Citadines really seems to have it down packed. The rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay. They are spacious, clean and modern, the living area is small but breaks up the room nicely. The small fridge is really handy as is the 7/11 located directly across the road, so you can buy supplies for breakfast there if you...

Generous and modern room. Very clean and reasonably priced. It is a stones throw from Gion station and there is a 7-11 and restaurants close by. The only downside is they are not very generous with pillows. Overall will stay here again.

We stayed for a week at Hotel Citadines. The kitchenette was fully equipped and meant we didn't have to eat out every night. Fantastic supermarket a few metres along the road plus assortment of eating places nearby. Rooms stylishly furnished & we'll maintained and the friendly & efficient staff have excellent English. Taxi rank & subway just outside entrance &...

Convenient location as it is a couple of steps way from the Gojo-station's exit. Room is clean and large for a comfortable night's sleep. Nearby the hotel is Takagi coffee for a cuppa and french toast. If couple are interested in dressing up in kimono, Yumeyukata is just a stone throw away.

I spent five days at the Citadines - aside from some downsides of the location, I loved my apartment. The standard size was like a large studio - everything but the bathroom in one room but the kitchenette was far enough from the sleeping area that it felt spacious. Like other Japanese hotels, the accomodations were very clean and modern....

Citadines Karasuma-Gojo was roomy, clean, modern and comfortable plus very reasonably priced. We stayed in a studio premier room on the 8th floor which had a balcony. The bathroom is tinsy but that's ok everything else is very roomy. Don't be seduced into having the breakfast because it seems so reasonably priced, spend your yen elsewhere. Very close to Kyoto's...

This is like a hotel, but with small apartments, so you can prepare your own breakfasts or small meals if you like. The room we had was a good size and having a balcony gave us some breathing space. The breakfast isn't much to talk about, but when you can buy breakfast items at the small super market to the...

We stayed there end of August/ beginning of September for five days. This is the place to stay in Kyoto: large rooms with kitchenette, friendly English-speaking personnel in the lobby, laundry at a very decent price. 50 meters to the next subway station, a 100 m to the next bus stop. In one sentence: very recommendable! Only one drawback: the...

We stayed here after reading the many positive reviews on Tripadvisor and were very happy with the hotel. It isn't the Ritz - or the Hyatt - but the price is also not that high either. Booked through Expedia and got a nice room for just over $100 per night, which we thought was very reasonable. It is close to...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
