We stayed 3 nights in this hotel, and we are three persons, the appartment was small but ok for three of us (a couple and a friend), The appartment is one room with a spanic wall which separates half-room with a double bed. The appartment is equippet with a small kitchen and we would recommend to make breakfast yourself, for...

First time travellers to Japan, we we're expecting little based on what we'd read. The hotel is an easy 10 min walk from Kyoto station. Room was bigger than we thought. Very clean. Has everything we need. Kitchenette, shower over bath, lounge. Room very bright and even though we faced the main road, noise was not an issue. Didn't try...

A very zen and quaint hallway greets you as you enter Citadines Kyoto. The rooms are of a comfortable size, with kitchenette and couch area. The staff were really friendly and helpful (especially in the face of a screaming/ crying kid). They provided free maps with restaurant recommendations (Arima, famous for tempura, is a must try) and we had a...

The rooms were a good size and the beds were very comfortable! The rooms were modern and had good facilities, and gave the option of home cooking too. The lobby was lovely and the staff were helpful. My only downside was the breakfast. It was a small buffet and didn't have much choice. I recommend going out as there are...

I chose this hotel for a few different reasons. 1) I loved the Citadine Apartments in Shinjuku Tokyo and assumed Kyoto would be similar. 2) Great recommendations from Trip Advisor. 3) Got an excellent price on their website for being a member. I stayed here recently as a solo traveller and was pleased with the hotel. I stayed in a...

I stayed in many Japanese hotels before, but this one by far exceeded my expectations. Beautiful lobby, friendly and knowledgeble staff, spacious and clean room. The room was very bright with nice big windows, a kitchenette with all appliances and utensils, flat screen TV, wifi, etc. They also gave me 40 percent off my next stay in any of their...

The staff is very helpful and knows a lot more English than at the other hotels we've been to. Comfortable rooms with good beds. Couch is not to great though. Breakfast was good but a bit small. Location is wonderful, one stop from Kyoto and Shijo stations (the city center) and walking distance from a lot of nice activities.

If you are not willing to splurge on accommodation yet want relatively good hotel, this is definitely a great choice. I manage to get a good rate through their website (tips: do visit their website every now and then as sometimes they offer really competitive rate). Location is great with just a few steps to Gojo station (one stop away...

I have to say this is the best hotel experience I had in Japan with Citadines. We had a double room, apartment style. The room was so spacious compared to the other hotels we stayed in - it is more expensive than the other ones I have to say, but I'll definitely choose Citadines again next time over other hotels!...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
