This hotel is very well situated and is within easy walking distance of Gion, Nishiki Market and Central Kyoto. However if arriving at Kyoto Railway station with luggage it is probably necessary to take a taxi if you are not familiar with Kyoto We stayed in a Western style twin room with comfortable large single beds. The Wifi was very...

This is a really nice new hotel in the center of everything! Serves a great buffet style breakfast with an excellent espresso machine! Close to subway and river. Coin operated laundry facility, which is always useful if traveling light.

Just basically writing this review to show my deep appreciation for her...she was a very helpful staff member & I will remember that forever. The room itself was immaculate and more importantly the bathroom which is the first thing I check. The main reason I stayed here was its location to Club Butterfly & Club Kitsune lol! I know I'll...

I stayed for one night, last night, in a twin room .Booked through booking.com I paid 22,000 yen for one night, room only. It cost 1000 yen for a taxi from Kyoto station and about the same to Kiyomizudera which was absolutely heaving with crowds (we walked back). The location is close to shopping areas and walkable to Higashiyama. The room...

This hotel is located minutes away from the Kawaramachi bus stops and nearly adjacent to the market streets, so truly in the middle of things. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful. Japanese buffet breakfast is provided in a nice eating area. However, the selection was limited and there were no juices or fresh rolls provided...

Small room. Comfortable bed but not large. Shower/bath. Excellent location surrounded by shops and restaurants of all types inc western - number of Italian close. Walking distance of Gion area (10 mins) for night explore or Imperial Palace during day (20/30 mins, free and worth the effort). Breakfast mostly Japanese with a few western dishes - ok. About 10/15 mins...

Location can't be beat as there are lots of shopping around the hotel. The rooms are very small and one day the bed wasn't completely made. TV had limited channels and no english channels. Staff was friendly. When compared to our stay at a Ryokan in Kyoto, the Ryokan was a grander cultural experience and price wise, a better bargain.

Probably the best hotel we have stayed in these last two weeks - we spent four nights here and the room was clean, quiet, spacious and had everything you would expect from a Japanese hotel. Staff were very on the ball, always greeted you in and out, free bottles of water every day. Restaurant attached did an excellent buffet meal,...

Perfect location close to fascinating market, and to street lined with restaurants. A stroll across the bridge brings one to the Gion district where ladies in Kimonas abound in the late afternoon. On the reception desk of the hotel we admired a beautiful and intricate origami globe. The receptionist said that origami is her hobby and gave it to us....

This is a fantastic place to stay. The rooms are big by Japanese standards, staff super and public transport to the station is just across the road. But the location is just stunning. Perfect for the shops and for Gion. Nice restaurants nearby. Cannot recommend the hotel too highly.

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
