I really loved this place. It was quiet and clean and tucked away right in the centre of a great part of Kyoto near the geiko district in Gion and the old area of Higashayama. Transport connections were really good and it was a short walk to the downtown area. The room was really comfortable and convenient. I would choose... More

Location-wise, it is great, just within walking distance from Gion. The environment is quiet. My Japanese-style room was very spacious, which I think could house 3 persons (there were 3 sets of futon). Cleanliness was really average thought, and am disappointed as the bath was so-so only. Breakfast was also of average quality. Nothing to lose if it's not included.... More

We stayed one night in the twin room, very spacious and modern. The price was very reasonable with breakfast. We also woke up at 6 AM and joined in the monks morning practices with other guests. It was only allowed for the guests who stayed their hotel, and such a nice experience, very quiet. compared with busy major temples during... More

We enjoyed this place so much that we wanted to keep this to ourselves. We were very lucky to manage to book a room in the 11th hour. We visited Chion In many years ago and had a wonderful experience watching the New Year Eve Gong by the skilled monks. We were very excited about the new Kaikan which opened... More

Stayed in a family room and loved the hotel. They provide a delicious tofu breakfast in the morning which is included. The onsen is simple and nice option, did wish the hours were a little longer. This is a hotel affiliated with the temple, so it is really serene. Staff is courteous and helpful. Everything you need is provided and... More

We stayed for 1 night. As a plus: room size - quite big. Room nicely furbished, clean, good amenities. Also: hotel very close to Chion-in Temple and walking distance from Maruyama Park. It's a good choice, quite place in Kyoto. Close to bus station so it's easy to move to other attractions.

It was our first time to stay in a temple lodging in Kyoto. Chion-in unfortunately was closed for renovation when we were there but they had a special viewing of the interior of the Sanmon gate. What we figured would maybe be a budget option compared to staying in a ryokan, it wasn't really the case here. We paid about... More
