Location of the hostel is quite near to Kyoto Station. It's 2 train stops away. Around the hostel, there are many designers shop, where you are look around at the unique clothing designs by their local designers. It is also quite near Gion area, which is about 15-20 min walking distance. The main road near the hostel has many different...

This hostel was in a good location and the bathrooms were always very clean, however the rooms were smelly and there was only one bathroom to share between the ten of us in a room and at night time you could hear noise from the bar below. The hostel also had hidden costs which made it over priced therefore it...

I visited Khaosan Kyoto Theatre in July with a friend and We stayed in a female dorm room. I have stayed in hostels all over the world and this is by far one of the best!! The atmosphere is so chill, the facilities are very clean, and The pod style bunk beds give you so much privacy with enough room...

This has been 1 of the best backpacker dormitory that I have stayed. I have opted to stay in the mixed dormitory and though it is double decker bed, there is an individual wooden sliding door to enclose it to become a wooden capsule. it is very cosy though fully cover up; ventilation is still good. privacy is good too,...

Typical hostel setup, but right off the main strip, so can't complain. Lots of events going on, and a bar to go with it. Plenty of amenities to offer, and staff speaks English. Rates aren't too bad and would stay here again.

A really great hostel with an amazing staff. It's very easy to find, and the location is really awesome. The Gion district and the attractions surrounding it were accessible by a nice scenic walk, and everything else was simple enough to get to by bus. The Nishiki Food Market, located right next door, was a highlight of my trip. Be...

In July this year, I with my classmates from the University of Macao went to Kyoto. This hotel is our home for 4 days. From the outside to look at this hotel, is round, like an egg that look very cute. Into the inside, you can feel the warm greetings of the Japanese, they will be greeted with a smile....

I'm used to staying at hostels. However, staying at this hostel was not a good experience. As no private room was available I was staying in the 14 bed mixed dorm with my boyfriend. The room was very smelly. When I asked the staff to change the room I was told there was no spare room. Also, the mattress was...

This hostel is located in the center near the Nishiki food market. The beds are good and there is a privacy capsule like. The staff is amazing and helps in any question. They have good maps and advices about anyway you want to go. There are a lot of bus lines and places to eat around the hostel. It is...

I stayed in this hostel for 3 nights as a solo traveller and it was brilliant. The hostel has a really good atmosphere which is aided by the bar having a happy hour. The staff were really friendly. The facilities were clean and plentiful. It is in a good location and easy to find. The kitchen has everything you need,...

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
