Very Japanese styling, very modern and sleek. Restaurants a bit overpriced but excellent service. Wonderful service from the bellhops and front desk. Rooms are small (like most Japanese hotels). Good locaton. Not many restaurants or attractions nearby, but a friendly safe location

Tiny rooms with hard mattresses. Barely had room for our suitcases. Large step up to go into the tiny bathroom. But the rooms were clean. Fine for one night, as we were with a group and we were only there overnight. More like small motel...More

Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and
with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

This is a beautiful hotel, with a great location and free shuttle to the train station. They do have air conditioning, but depending when you visit, you may not need it. Each room does have it's own bathroom and hair dryer. Kyoto is a fabulous place to visit, especially during the fall and the spring. Have a great visit.
