I spent 4 nights at New Hankyu Kyoto in May/2014. Location: Excellent because it is near the Kyoto Train Station and the Bus Terminal. It is easy to shop and dine in the Kyoto Train Station. A convenient spot to go anywhere in Kyoto. Service: Good. I request the Hotel to book restaurants for me and they did the job...

Across the road from kyoto train station, main Shinkansen station. U can walk everywhere from here& buy many things, eating is easy & buy food downstairs at The Cube to eat on the train to tokyo..the best food I've seen in the world, Staff were friendly & helpful, the Japanese are very polite, the hotel is rather dated & rooms...

Can't be any better location. Just right across the street from the Kyoto train station and bus terminal. The front desk staff were helpful. The room is small but it's Ok for Japan. All toiletteries were provided along with the night gown and slippers. Overall the room was clean but needed some upgrades. They were doing the renovation so hopefully...

This is a hotel for mainly locals as its does not really cater for non Japanese, only a little English is spoken. The hotel is just over the road from the station so it's very convenient for travellers, the hotel is very clean and the staff pleasant although the rooms are small and have too much furniture for the size...

Stayed in Kyoto Hankyu hotel for 4 days on our 10 day long Japan trip. The location of the hotel is hard to beat. Right next to the Kyoto JR station and the bus station. Very accommodating staff and helpful with directions. Rooms were small but that is to be expected, its in Japan after all. If i have state...

Checked in 24/3/2014. We have only been here 4 hours so far. The ungratful staff member we dealt with at the front desk was very rude. And even as we went out for dinner he 'glared' at us. The room is big enough for the price that we are paying. (Twin bed) Quite dirty. There are two used tissues in...

It was just an OK hotel. Rooms were OK but nothing special. Breakfast was overpriced and rubbish. On the second morning I resorted to going round the corner for a McDonalds breakfast .. a fifth of the price and oh so much better! Be careful where your room is as the road outside is busy and at one end there...

The location is superb. After landing from Kansai airport, we took the kansai airport express and 75mins we arrived at Kyoto station, 3mins walk from the train station, we reached the hotel. There is a 24hr Lawson convenience store just across the hotel. Taxis are always readily waiting infront of the hotel. We were supposed to be staying at level...

I have read the reviews before I decided to stay in this hotel. I did not have high expectation since it is a budget trip with my friends. The convenient location of the hotel attracted me. I expected the room will be small with worn decoration. But I have never imagine it is such a dirty hotel in Japan. I...

This hotel was everything we were looking for as first time travelers to Kyoto. We caught the bullet train from Tokoyo and the hotel was directly opposite the train station. The buses also leave from in front of the train station. We found the buses very easy to use as each stop is announced in English as well as Japanese...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
