Spotlessly clean and well appointed room. The king size bed was extremely
comfortable and there was a sofa and single armchair . Quality toiletries were replenished daily and the bedding and towels were changed daily, even when we just left the request on the door for the room to be made up.
Occasionally the water temperature in the shower very briefly goes a little colder then hotter, otherwise it was an excellent power shower.
With the reception service and location, adjacent to the station, this hotel cannot be faulted. We would definitely stay again.

This hotel is situated in the heart of Kyoto opposite the station. Double glazing helped keep the noise of the road and railway outside to a minimum.
We were part of a group of 35 arriving at the same time but rooms had been allocated prior to arrival and “keys” prepared so the whole process was easy.
Rooms were fantastic – clean and bright. The only comment we would make is that, in this age of conserving resources, the bath tub (with perfectly good shower over) should be removed and replaced with a walk-in shower. Some of the more mature in years people in our group may have found getting in and out of the tub a little tricky as it was quite high.
Free wifi is available throughout the hotel with easy access.
The provision of tea/coffee ingredients was a little sparse and there was no English Breakfast tea! Go prepared – we did – and with milk sticks!
The whole building was spotless and the staff dressed immaculately.
A significant number of staff spoke English to a greater or lesser degree but all were very helpful.
Breakfast was a buffet of a wide selection of Western and Japanese food although not all the hot food was more than warm (the pitfalls of catering for a large number of people).
Once again, no English Breakfast tea and no cold milk by the coffee/hot water machines – find the cereals for that! Chop-sticks and knives/forks were available.
Check out was simple even the machine was in English or Japanese!
Would we return – if we went back to Kyoto, it would be a serious contender. Our trip’s brochure said we would be staying in a mixture of 3 and 4 star hotels. This is certainly an hotel in the upper range of a 4 star hotel.

The hotel is across the road from Kyoto station which makes it an excellent base for exploring the area.

The staff were excellent; obliging, polite, competent, patient and professional - all of them, every single one.

The rooms are a decent, clean and comfortable. The mattress and pillows were great. The room comes with a hair dryer, electric kettle, cups, glasses and toiletries. The kettle is the usual 'odd-lid' Japanese hotel one that takes a while to boil.

There is also a fridge and a safe, both easy to use. The TV only had CNNj as an English language channel, the other channels being in Japanese, Mandarin or Korean.

The buffet breakfasts contain western and asian cuisine. The scrambled eggs were consistently runny so I suppose that may be a Kyoto preference as we didn't find that elsewhere in Japan. Boiled ham and boiled rashers of bacon are on offer. I tried the boiled bacon and it is not for me. It was a decent rasher but I don't know where they got the idea from to boil it.

The pastries are great but the bread choice is limited to little brioche-buns, a baguette and some square white Chorleywood process 'bread'. I do like real bread and you have to search a bit to find it in Japan, having said that the baguette was alright.

The breakfast had filter coffee machines and urns of ready coffee, presumably instant but I didn't find much difference between the two. There are various juices available, the orange juice is diluted with water, again I had no problem with that, it tasted good. There was milk, which tasted like full-fat. I can't recall any non-lactose milk so if that's your thing you'll need to bring your own.

Knives, forks, spoons and chopsticks were available as well as paper napkins.

We had a Japanese evening meal in one of the restaurants in the basement and it was very nice. As we had many Japanese evening meals I am struggling to recall what we had in this hotel.

Would I stay here again? Yes, absolutely!

This is definitely not a 4 star hotel by anyone’s standards. Yes, the hotel is close to the station and the rooms are large as far as Japanese hotel rooms go, so no complaints there. But that’s where it ends. The hotel is geared towards the large tourist groups and for this reason I would not stay again. The breakfast is mediocre at best. If you want toast then you need to wait for the toaster that takes 3-4 minutes to cook 1-2 slices. Not conducive when there’s a restaurant with over 100 people in it. Very basic and not worth the money. Was unable to even have a cup of Japanese tea at breakfast as that was not on offer.
The beds are rock hard. This is our 5th hotel we have stayed in whilst touring Japan and the worst we have encountered. They brought up a topper for it , but it’s only a double size whereas the bed is a queen so does not fit as it should and makes it very uncomfortable but thankyou to the staff that tried to make the bed more comfortable.
The bathroom is like one on a cruise ship. Small and needs revamping as the towels hang over the toilet. On a positive the water was always hot and the toiletry supplies plentiful.
We also received a pamphlet saying they clean the rooms every 3 days to save the environment unless you put the magnet on the door requesting a service. Maybe offer a discount for those who don’t want the room cleaned.
It seems a cost saving exercise rather than one to save the environment.
All in all I would look elsewhere if staying in Kyoto.

An excellent hotel in an excellent location, right outside Kyoto Central railway station and just around the corner from the restaurants and supermarket of the Aeon Shopping Centre. The rooms are very spacious, with two large, comfortable, single beds and a comfortable L-shape sofa and buffet, and a small table. Ample room for your luggage and a short but adequate hanging area for your clothes. Lots of power outlets to charge your electronic devices. The standard Japanese hotel bathroom with bath/shower and heated toilet/bidet.

It is a very large hotel but the large breakfast area works well, with a good layout and arrangement of the extensive breakfast fare. The hot breakfast items are the hottest so far on this trip, although still only lukewarm on Western standards. Lots of options to create a European, English or Japanese breakfast.

So hard to fault. So HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This is a large hotel that supports tour groups. There are a lot of rooms and there are a lot of people. If you happen to hit breakfast at the same time as one of those groups you'll see what I mean. Sometimes I waited 5 minutes to get on the elevator because a tour bus had just disgorged its group. Overall I agree with the other reviews in terms of nice rooms, cleanliness, and generally bigger than normal Japanese hotels. That being said, there are a couple of things to consider. While it's true that it's very convenient to Kyoto station, many of the tourist attractions aren't near the train station. And a lot of the restaurants/bars near the station appear to cater to foreign tourists which is a bit of a turn off for me. As in any big city, there are pros and cons of any location but next time I'd look for a hotel closer to the temples and parks. I'd also find a hotel that didn't cater to large tour groups so as to avoid masses of people when trying to ride the elevator or eat breakfast.

Very comfortable beds. Confusing breakfast despite 3 breakfast points. Le plasir buffet dinner excellent choice but be careful: if you pay by credit card they ask you if you want to pay in euros or local currency and if you pay in euros the commission is high

Stayed here for 2 nights during a short stay in Kyoto. I chose the hotel because of its location, as it's just across the street from Kyoto station and access to trains was important to me. I had a good experience with Miyako in Fukuoka so I didn't think it would be too bad here.

I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel may look dated on the outside but inside it had been completely refurbished. New furnishings, very modern and clean. The feeling is very similar to Miyako in Fukuoka, as they are not a business hotel so there was no desk, but rather a side table with sofa and chair.

I liked the in-room iron and ironing board. I liked the presence of both USB-A and USB-C ports, which is important for the modern traveler. I liked that they give us magnets for the door to tell housekeeping what to do.

I was disappointed, though, at the lack of any bedside tables. I didn't have a place to put my eyeglasses after taking them off. Or a cup of water before going to bed. Or anywhere to keep my phone overnight while charging. I was surprised at this design flaw.

Otherwise, though, it was all good. Staff was courteous and helpful in general, although at times they were too busy handling luggage from other guests.

I would stay here again.

We stayed here on the 5th and 6th.
We stayed here on a trip to Kyoto, and used a dynamic package that included a Shinkansen train. To enjoy Kyoto cuisine, we had dinner at Matsuyama-kaku in Isetan, and for breakfast, my husband and I enjoyed a delicious Japanese set meal at Uoman.
It was close to the station, spacious, and the food was delicious. They let us leave our luggage there and gave us efficient access information, and the staff were very kind. We were upgraded to a room in the South Wing. The room corridors and other areas were luxurious and calming, and the room was spacious and fun and relaxing for my wife and I, so we were very satisfied. We bought some takeout matcha cookies to enjoy the hotel's flavor at home.
About 13 years ago, we used the lunch buffet at the buffet restaurant, and I still remember how delicious everything was with the wide variety.
As expected of a Miyako Hotel, it is close to the station and convenient to Toji Temple, and is one of our favorite hotels. We are always very grateful to the staff (including the cooks and chefs), the hotel, and the food.
