This a high quality hotel with excellent rooms and amenities, including in room wifi. Staff are helpful and courteous. There is a good range of choices in the buffet breakfast but there must be a market for an efficient toaster as the ones here are very slow. There is some minor noise from the nearby bullet trains but not enough...

Room nice, bathroom small, but they had really nice hair conditioner. Not much use arriving too early though as they seem to make everyone sit and wait till 2 o'clock to check in. Never seen that before. Maybe they just don't open check in till then. Also, when I asked at reception for normal black tea bags, they don't have...

Not bad for expensive Kyoto. The reception area was chaotic when we arrived, but it is a large tourist/package hotel. Very relieved to get to the room and find it good sized and comfortable. Difficult to cool it down so we slept with the window open, a little noise but fine. Bathroom just fine. Did not eat there as the...

We were going to stay in Kyoto for 4 nights, and I did a fair bit of research before settling at New Miyako. The reviews for this hotel were rather mixed on TA - but if you go through them in more details, you would find that those gave the hotel a bad or average rating had chosen to stay...

We stayed at the New Miyako hotel in Kyoto for a 3 night side trip during out visit to Tokyo. Location is very convenient to Kyoto Station, and the rooms were better than we expected. This property services lots of tour groups, but my wife and I did not feel lost as an individual couple amidst all of the groups....

I was checked into the hotel and given someone else's room with a key that opened their room. when give the correct room, it was at a distance from the elevator. The hotel is convenient to the train station but that is all i can say about it. The rooms are small, dark, lighting is poor. the bathroom is little...

We only stayed one night at New Miyako Hotel, however it was well worth it. The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. As some people mentioned, the decor is a bit dated, but that didn't really matter as we were only looking for a place to sleep and close to sights. The hotel is located...

Compared to other hotels that I stayed in, the New Miyako Hotel stands out. In terms of location, it is right across the Kyoto train station and a 5-minute walk away from a mall that has good restaurants and a big grocery. The size of the room is just right and the bathroom has lovely heated toilet seats and various...

Stayed 4 nights. Good position. If you go on tours this hotel seems be the meeting place for most trips. Handy for Kyoto station, shopping mall, restaurants and close to Kyoto tower. Not noisy considering station but bring plugs if you are lite sleeper as trains start up after 5am and sounded like torrential rain starting and stopping to me....

Paid for a Premium Room. Room was very small, clean but old furnishings. Pod bathroom was very small, but ok for us as we are not big. Bed was not very comfortable- expected better for the price we paid. Didn't bother with the restaurants which seemed very expensive. There are lots of eateries at the station. Did not notice any...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
