"Ryokan Yamazaki" has been reborn with a new concept as "RYOKAN YAMAZAKI". Surrounded by nature in Takao, Kyoto, we have elaborated our plans as a place where you can have a peaceful time. In addition, access to sightseeing spots by car is convenient, making it an ideal base for sightseeing in Kyoto. Enjoy a comfortable and peaceful trip while feeling the Japanese atmosphere. The logo has also changed to symbolize the new “RYOKAN YAMAZAKI”. The design combines a mountain icon representing Takao, a famous scenic spot in Kyoto surrounded by mountains, and simple letters that evoke the interior and room settings. It fuses tradition and modernity to express the mountains' beauty and a ryokan's sophisticated atmosphere of a ryokan. 30 minutes by bus from Kyoto Station, the restaurant/Ryokan Yamazaki is very convenient for access to Takao. It is located in a quiet place where you can feel the change of seasons in Kyoto up close.

Detailed Reviews
It's a well kept ryokan in a quiet part of Kyoto that is excellent value for money. Rooms are well kept with comfortable bedding, air conditioning and wi-fi.
Location wise, it's a little out of the way but we had no problem making our way around - a short taxi ride to several temples where you're then near the train line, and there's a JR bus stop right outside that will take you all the way to Kyoto station.
We opted for the stay with breakfast/dinner each day and the food was excellent, authentic Japanese dishes for dinner and they catered to the coeliac in our group. Breakfast had an option of Japanese or Western style.
The proprietor was very hospitable and spoke good English, so was able to assist us in our travel plans.

This Ryokan does indeed appear to be recently renovated and under improved management. Our en-suite room was spacious, clean and new. Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast both exceeded expectations. Given the reasonable price this is a good introductory Ryokan. The location is well out of the city centre so generally quiet. We arrived on foot from the station en-route from Arashiyama bamboo grove and departed by bus to Kyoto station which worked OK. Staff speak good enough English. Heating/AC a bit noisy.
The JR bus passes the door heading for the station approx twice per hour (free if you have a railcard); plus No8 bus once or twice per hour.

I'm glad the room is so beautiful. Rather, the room was too large for two. The only amenities are rinse-in shampoo and body soap, so women might want to take bath goods. There were two sinks side by side and they were spacious. If your child is staying, you might hear footsteps or voices. If you're nervous, you'll be concerned. I was not particularly bothered. The food was gorgeous, but the amount was not too large, and I was able to finish it comfortably. The convenience store was also a 10-minute walk away, so it was very helpful. I didn't go there this time, but I think there was a temple nearby. Overall it was a very quiet and calm space.

Unfortunately our lovely stay here (great accommodation, delicious food, kind staff) was turned bitter when we still have not gotten a refund for our overpayment, and its been almost two months since our stay. We have sent multiple emails, so are resorting to a review here to hopefully get a staff members attention. We paid online at booking.com in full before arrival, and then were asked to pay again in full upon arrival. Please, check your email Ryokan staff (from titusworldtravel@gmail.com), we appreciatively await your reply! Thank you!

Located at a residential area, Yamazaki Ryokan allows a chance to escape from the busy crowds of Kyoto and experience a traditional japanese accommodation. There is a restaurant in the hotel which serves japanese food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the surroudings one can find less known and peaceful temples. The closest train station (Utano) is about 20 minutes walk from the Ryokan. There are bus lines that stop in the vicinity of the hotel.

No love. The Ryokan itself has nice rooms with tatami mats and very comfortable futons. The issue lies around the staff and presumably the owner who didn’t have the decency to come out of the room screened off at the front desk but was still able to hear us and bark out replies. The Ryokan itself is out of town so to get in to town you have to catch a sporadic bus every 40 mins, a taxi being 2200 yen from
the centre and 5000 yen from the station. There is a hotel bus but with the suggestion they drop us they said there was no driver. The staff were uncooperative and it felt like we were doing them a favour being there. Breakfast was average at best with cold fish and watery miso. Sorry, loved Kyoto, but will stay in town for the money spent.

Room Tip: Hard to be so far out of town given Kyoto is a lot of walking.

A nice enough ryokan but it had terrible lighting and poor bathroom. These things could've been easily fixed... the night light was blinding in our room and definitely not good for winding down... you'd expect a lanturn of some kind but not here sadly.
On the positive side, the staff were friendly enough and the Japanese breakfast was fantastic. They called us a cab and were happy to help nearly everything.

The room was very clean and the amenities were well prepared, which was great. The staff were also all very nice and polite. The dinner and breakfast were also very delicious. Another plus point was that you could choose between Japanese and Western food for breakfast. Access is fine if you're coming by car, but if you're coming by bus, you'll have to make a few transfers, so it might be a bit difficult. However, I was very satisfied with my trip.

A super nice experience, they were attentive to my arrival and in constant communication, they were also very friendly during the reception and the traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious
The room was spacious and new, everything was perfectly clean. The garden is beautiful, I missed days to enjoy it, it is located on the outskirts so the neighborhood is very quiet and you feel very peaceful

Excellent staff and accommodation. If you're looking for a retreat, this is the place. It's quiet, clean, and peaceful. Though not as accessible with public transportation, it's a special place that allows for a disconnect with the noise of the urban environment.

Dear Reader
We hired a car so are unable to answer your question properly. I do recall other patrons of our lovely ryokan catching a bus into town. The bus stop was right outside our ryokan from memory.

Lisa
Yes, we left our bags at the front desk during the day.
Please call hotel front to question is your reserve done or not.
I think about 15000 yen but its a simple breakfast set , not special at all .
