All other hotels were expensive on that day, so we chose this ryokan quite near Kyoto station. But it was even terrible for a temporary stay. The room is tiny, bathroom is tiny, elevator is tiny, isle is tiny. The bed linings look dirty and uncomfortable. We found a big spider on the futon. And small bugs in the room....

I booked 3 nights in April 2016 and then advised them of my flight change and could only stay 2 nights. Booking.com passed my request on to them but they viewed us as a "no show". we showed for our 2 days and they did not want to consider an adjustment to our bill or advise Booking.com that we actually...

Not far from Kyoto station (about 10 minute walk). The room is quite small but comfortable. The staff is very nice and helpful. The place is not new and need some renovation. Overall, it is very good for budgetwise traveller.

From the outside, Station Ryokan Seiki looked like a decent place to stay. Upon entering, it got more "cozy". There was an elderly gentleman who greeted me, took my information and gave me a map with a brief summary in broken English. While the incense odor they had running 24/7 burned my nostrils I tried to grasp what he was...

At 5000 yen a night this is what you got. Semi clean room, folded up tatami with linen. Small tv and wall sockets to charge your devices. The only amenities they supplied was hand wash and a toothbrush, nothing else. The window did not have a curtain drawn therefore no need for an alarm for the light / sensitive sleepers....

The place is just a tourist trap. It got that convenient location that make most backpacker stop by for the last night before taking the Shinkansen for elsewhere. But the tradeoff is unacceptable: this place is a bag of dirt! They don't clean it. At all. - The bathroom is so disgusting that you have to make some serious effort...

From the entrance, you will notice the guests' shoes. On the stairway, it didn't satisfy the cleanliness you're expecting. Once you arrive inside the room, cleanliness is an issue. You will notice that dust is everywhere - on the tv, fridge, electric kettle, windows and bathroom. Faucet is leaking and there is no shower curtain in the bathroom. You need...

It's a bit hard to pin down why I enjoyed my stay, but we really did. The owners are very friendly, and were extremely helpful to us (plus, the dog is a complete cutie). As for the essentials of a hotel stay, it was...probably sub-par. The room was "pretty clean" by my standards, and "pretty dirty" by my wife's (does...

The water backed up & the owner could care less. If you need to bathe or use the bathroom, you have to use it somewhere else. So what if there's over an inch of water on the bathroom floor. It's too late to call the plumber. Forget moving you to another room or giving you a discount or giving you...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
