We visited during cherry blossom season, the room rates are very high. The location close to Kyoto station is really convenient. We did expect the rooms to be small, struggled to find place to even open our luggage. And the rooms are quite dated.

The hotel is in a great location but I'm not sure if it adds up to a European 1*Hotel. Terrible. Extremely Small, dirty and stinky rooms, you feel like In a budget Hotel in one of the post communist countries. Would never go back and would not reccomend. Not for that price. It's worth max 35-40€ a night.

Stayed there for 2 nights in April 2015. Booked very last minute and there was not many options available in kyoto so we went with this hotel. Is was very overpriced for what you got. The rooms are tiny and the bathroom was small and very old. I am 185cm tall and couldn't not even fit into the bathroom. The... More

Quite pricey for twin room, no breakfast, shower head spoilt, no complimentary parking for scooter. Plus point: Location. Good! Near to Kyoto station and Kyoto Tower. Received Kyoto tower discount coupons and 10% discount coupons for shopping at the tower souvenir shops at level 1. Staff was quite friendly. Able to speak little English.

Kyoto Tower Hotel Annex is a short walk (~4 min) from the Kyoto Station. Once you exit Kyoto Station, turn left and cross the traffic light (you will see Lawsons opposite). Continue heading left till you see another Lawsons, cross the road (it has diagonal crossings) and you'll see the hotel! Staff doesn't speak much English and was a tad... More

This hotel smelled pretty terrible in all aspects. The lobby was a smoke filled tiny room. One table had a no-smoking sign, and yet, 1 meter away there was an indoor ashtray with people smoking. Constantly. Every single time we entered/exited the hotel. Additionally, our floor was supposedly a non-smoking floor. There was a non-smoking sign on every door. Yet,... More

Located but 5min walk from the main Kyoto JR line, it was really convenient for the budget traveller such as me and even threw in in a free admission ticket to the Kyoto Tower! It was the most horrible hotel we have been to in Japan thus far. Firstly, the room was dirty. The floor un-vacuumed still had crumbs of someone's breakfast scattered under the table and on the covering of my bedsheet was someone's period blood. It was absolutely horrific to find after having tucked into bed in the middle of the night.... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
