My husband and I stayed for 4 nights. The things we liked best: - peaceful location - convenient shuttle bus into the heart of Kyoto - helpful concierge service - room was clean and spacious but modest for a Westin hotel - breakfast was good value Things that weren't so good: - having to pay extra for amenities that were...

The hotel is well located on the edge of town and close to many top sites. It is also close to a metro station. The rooms are comfortable and have nice views as long as you are not in the inside courtyard (quite dreadful). The main problems are with the cost of the extras. The restaurants are incredibly expensive, you...

We stayed here four nights in later August. The hotel is very easy to get to from the train station, as there is a subway stop almost under the hotel. The inside of the hotel is really nice, even the older side, which i stayed in. Not only is this the best hotel to stay in for visiting all the...

Forewarning - review based on experiences during summer 2009 Stayed at the Westin Miyako Kyoto at the end of June 2009 in an incredibly spacious junior suite. This property is actually rather historical and was founded somewhere during the beginning of the 1900s. The room The junior suite consisted of a separate living room, a spacious bedroom, a huge walk-in...

This was my third stay at the Westin Miyako. The very first one was not impressive as it took place before rooms were refurbished (but somehow I was properly compensated through Starwood points). The second one was unforgettable albeit pricey as we opted for a Japanese-style room (highly recommended). This review is mostly based on our latest stay (4 nights,...

This hotel had its best time many years ago.... The huge hotel complex is in a sad condition. You partly feel as in one of the big hotels in former socialist countries. Although some rooms are renovated, they are smelly. The room size is okay, but the bad rooms not at all what you could expect from such a hotel....

The hotel in itself is incredibly nice. The location is average however as there are not many places to go eat around it and you need to take a taxi downtown everynight to eat outside. It is mostly in a residential area. However, with a bike it was incredibly easy to get around all the sight seeing we had to...

The Westin Miyako provided a free shuttle service to and from the station which was busy with no air conditioning but got us to the hotel with an additional stop in the town centre. The hotel itself was very elegant - tasteful and clean. The front desk staff was efficient and the concierge desk was very helpful for organising visits...

After having stayed at other five-star hotels in Japan I was really disappointed with the Westin Miyako as it did not live up to my expectations at all. The rooms look like a bad picture out of a 70s hotel brochure advertising 3-star hotels, and the breakfast room is even worse. It reminded me of our local school gym when...

Despite mediocre reviews, our Starwood loyalties brought us to giving this Westin another chance during the cherry blossom season. I thought our floor on the club level would guarantee better room quality, so I was even more surprised to see the worn-out and stained items in the guest room. But first, the positives: The expansive hotel is in a desirable...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
