No help on the luggages to the room, which i thought it's normal for 3 star hotel in Japan, but the price we paid was almost 5 star hotel. But we have been helped with the luggages at all hotels we stayed, except Aranvert. So not sure why. However, the rooms were renovated ones and very clean, especially bathroom. Then...

The hotel is situated in a good location, close to a subway line and a bus line which brings you to main tourist attractions. Moreover it is only one station from the Kyoto central station. The rooms are clean but nothing special. However for that price I would expect some English TV channels, at least BBC or CNN. Staff spoke...

Visited Kyoto in April as my wife really wanted to see the gardens, temples and cherry trees. Booked towards end of Feb and hotels were already hard to find, so settled on Aranvert, and it was not inexpensive- around £175 a night room only. (much much cheaper the earlier you book!). The best way to describe it is - a...

Surroundings are quiet as well except during the morning rush hours. the public bath was awesome and enjoyable. from the women's side, the city's lights and kyoto tower can be see clearly through its windows. The hotel is a fifteen-minute walk from the Kyoto station (or two minutes from metro station Goyo). The management seems to prefer privacy: no big signs outside the hotel, just some very dim (almost sad) lights. So you notice the hotel only when you are near its entrance. When you enter the hotel a large lobby welcomes you but an...

Hotel is partially refurbished so be sure to request. Great beds and linens. Bathrooms are nice but small even for Japan. Staff very helpful. Breakfast is good. Hot public baths are well cared for and on upper level with great view. Laundry available on site. Would definitely stay here again.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
