Stayed for three nights here with my partner. Easy walking distance from JR Kyōto Station. They stored our luggage on arrival until the room was available. Staff provided a suggested itinerary for our stay in Kyōto. Clean comfortable semi-traditional rooms. Very friendly staff who were really helpful. Nice big bath and shower area. Would stay again when in Kyōto.

Great stay in a semi-traditional ryokan hotel a short walk from the main train station. Staff was very friendly and welcoming and had lots of local knowledge. They even gave us a polaroid picture when we were leaving. We enjoyed the private onsen after walking outside in the humid summer weather. Good for people who want an affordable ryokan experience...

Stayed at the ryokan for two nights in mid March. It is only an easy 11 mins walk from the Kyoto Station in a quiet residential area. However, if you have a lot of luggage, it can take much longer as the roads are uneven. Our room at the ryokan was clean and a good size. As it is a...

We stayed at this Ryokan as it was recommended in TripAdvisor and other guides. It is very close to Kyoto station which helps with transports to different locations in the city. The owner is really nice, very helpful and organized offering us tips for outings. They also have bicycles for rent. The rooms are quite small for 2 people but...

Spent a night in Kyoto on our trip to Japan and wanted to stay in a traditional (but more modern) ryokan. This fit the description because it was nice and had our own bathroom. The style of sleeping in ryokan is a bit uncomfortable and the sheets could have been cleaner. The room was very clean, though. The staff were...

Great place to stay in kyoto. Really lovely host and staff, beautiful room, close to kyoto central. Easy on the bus or train to get to the main temples! Would definitely stay again, amazing to find a place like this in central kyoto.

The hotel staff must have "excellent service" tattooed on the back of both hands or something. After checking in, I was personally escorted to my room and given a quick tour to make sure I understood everything. Shortly after, a staff member brought tea up to to my door completely unprompted. They had detailed guides and recommendations for food and...

The staff is very friendly. They gave us a souvenir at the end of our stay. The location is not near the main street but they sent us email with the details and map so we can find it easily. The accommodation is clean and we can experience Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). I highly recommend this place to stay while...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
