I stayed in Noku Kyoto from 3rd to 7th August, 2020 with my family. We had 2 rooms on the 6th floor and the stay was fantastic. The Noku Kyoto is a very beautiful hotel with tasteful Japanese art on each floor and in each room. It is very well maintained and our rooms were spotless. Our stay included breakfast. There was great variety including a vegetarian omelette and a halal option. The Noku Kyoto is in a great location only 4 stops on the subway from Kyoto station. It is right beside the Kyoto Imperial Palace, walking distance from Nijo-Jo and a short bus journey from Ninenzaka and Kyomizudera. It is also on the bus route to Saga Arashiyama. We visited all these places as well as Fushimi Inari and Sanjusangendo. Finally, if you are a runner, don’t forget to ask the general manager for the best routes for a morning run to the local shrines and Kamogawa River.

We stayed here 3 nights. Location is good, right beside a subway exit and close to Nijo castle and Palace gardens. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a premium room on the top floor, which was nice. The room was pleasant, overlooking a roof garden, beds were comfortable and bathroom was good. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The hotel provides a map of the surrounding area with locations of attractions and local restaurants. Breakfast was taken in the cafe on the ground floor, so we helped ourselves to tea, coffee, juice and cereal and ordered hot food from a menu. There is a handicrafts tour from the hotel on Tuesdays and Fridays, so we joined one of these and visited a lacquerware shop where we saw a demonstation of the decoration process and how to tell the difference between wood and plastic and an incense shop. This was very interesting and we felt it was worthwhile.

Our foursome (two couples) found Noku to be perfectly located to gain access to all that the city of Kyoto has to offer. Although located on a main north-south avenue with an underground entrance not 30 meters away from the hotel entrance, it was a quiet, peaceful location, directly across from the Kyoto Gyoen, the central garden surrounding the Imperial Palace. If you're willing to use Kyoto's extensive public transportation systems (which were quite efficient), it's a snap to get to the parts west like Arashiyama by bus or subway, east to Higashiyama, and south to the central commercial parts. For the daily rate charged, the rooms could be considered luxurious--great space, firm but very comfy bed, well-appointed bathroom, and reliable, free WiFi. The staff at Noku Kyoto were only too happy to answer your questions and help you with anything you asked assistance with. We were delighted with our noon arrival to have access to our rooms right away. The immediate neighborhood (within 10 minutes walk) offered a very good selection of restaurants serving all manner of cuisines. We sampled a local Italian that felt like a warm, friendly local favorite serving authentic pastas and fish. We did not sample the breakfast in the hotel, but we did have lunch on day of arrival at the hotel. It was serviceable, not great, but we had no expectations nor plans to do much eating at the hotel. For that, all of Kyoto awaits you with abundant, excellent choices. Anyone who has traveled much in Japan understands the cost of comfort, particularly in accommodations, and by that standard Noku Kyoto offers outstanding value. We would not hesitate to stay there again, especially given its quiet, convenient location and great service.

Conveniently close to a subway station (Marutamachi Exit 4). The rooms are a good size and comfortable. It’s quiet. The breakfast arrangements are disappointing: we had to queue for about 10 minutes on the first occasion, then had to choose from a variety of set cooked breakfasts, to which they add a croissant and toast. No adequate option of fruit or cereals. Day 2 breakfast had no queue, but because waiting staff do not seem to be allocated responsibility for specific tables, there was confusion as to whether we had handed in our breakfast tickets, and our orders took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. Poor communication? We may have missed some, but the area seemed to lack an adequate variety of restaurants.

Dear Dilbertfan, Greetings from Noku Kyoto. Thank you for passing on your review of your stay. Your comments will be shared with the Noku Café management and the entire team. Not sure what you mean about fruit or cereal as these items are self service and you can help yourself to has many servings as you would like. Apologies about the poor communication and service on day two. Again this will be raised with the Café management. You might have missed the local area map with all of our recommended restaurant listings? There is one in every room. There are dozens of great dining options only a short distance from the hotel serving all sorts of cuisine from Japanese to international food. TripAdvisor is also a great source to find local places to eat. Thank you very much for your feedback, we will do our best to improve. Warm regards, Keren General Manager and the Noku Family

A central location adjacent to the Palace Gardens and situated above a subway station which made it very easy to get around the city. The decor throughout is modern and the staff excellent, friendly and very helpful with directions and restaurant reservations. The hotel has a cafe for breakfast and for light meals at other times and is surrounded by many restaurants. The king room was large with modern neutral decor and although overlooking the street, was very quiet.Room amenities included slippers, room safe, hair dryer and the use of a smart phone. The bathroom was somewhat small but had a full range of toiletries. The bed was rather too firm for our liking.
