Gotta be honest, the pics are better than what it is. Location wise, i will consider it far from Nagano station and they have no shuttle from the nearest station. Taxi can take 10-15 minutes from Nagano. They could use a little renovation particularly on the reception lobby. The onsen’s nice though. Helps for the shy ones If you choose the one that has the indoor onsen.
We stayed here for 3 nights in August. Our room was very nice, in the traditional Japanese style. The breakfast was also very good, with a number of small courses. The owners/staff speak no English but get by with a translation app which makes staying there easy. Overall the hotel is quite tired and shabby. The quality of the bedroom, breakfast and helpfulness of staff compensated for this. The rooms have airconditioning and ours had a private bathroom. The location is fine if you want to be out of the town but it’s not so good for access to central Nagano which is about 20 mins drive away. There is a train station not too far away so that may provide another access option.
We stayed here one night and it was amazing. The onsen is indoors, and very comfortable. The rooms are adorable. We stayed in one with the outdoor bathtub. While I'm not a fan of Japanese food, the breakfast was impressive. I'm pretty sure we were the only foreigners staying at there, but it was a weeknight during January. It was about a 30 minute taxi drive from Nagano Station (about $80). I believe there is actually a bus, but we arrived late in the evening and didn't want to figure it out. The onsen opens in the late afternoon and stays open all night until about 9am. We had it to ourselves, which was nice as my sister didn't have to figure out what to do about her tattoo.
